Unfortunately, there is no available vaccine for FeLV in Egypt. The diagnosis of feline intestinal lymphosarcomas depends upon abdominal palpation, x-rays examination, ultrasonography, direct ELISA and histopathology of masses excised during laparotomy. The recorded clinical signs in intestinal lymphosarcoma affected cats were variable including vomiting, fever, anorexia, ascites, anemia, dyspnea, constipation and emaciation. The affected lymph nodes were mesenteric, mediastinal and retropharyngeal. The prevalence of intestinal lymphosarcomas in the examined cats was 4.03 % (11 out of 273 cats). The prevalence was higher in queens than toms (2.93 % and 0.73 % respectively). The Siamese cats had higher prevalence than the Sherazy ones (2.56 % and 1.47 % respectively). X-ray films and ultrasonographic images performed on the eleven cats suffered from intestinal lym-phosarcomas revealed ascities and abd...

The principal treatments for traumatic SCI include surgical stabilization and decompression. Using muscle as a scaffold is a new approach. The aim of this work is to evaluate the clinical efficacy of muscle graft as a scaffold for the growing axons organizing their growth, preventing gliosis in the damaged area and enhancing neural recovery in canine model of traumatic spinal cord injury. Methods: 14 dogs were divided into group I (Control group) 4 control dogs subjected to Sham operation , group II (Trauma control group) 5 dogs subjected to dorsal laminectomy with excision of 1 cm segment of the spinal cord and group III (Muscle graft group) 5 dogs subjected to dorsal laminectomy then muscle graft was taken from the longissimus thoraces and inserted into the spinal cord gap. The animals of all groups were euthanatized after 8 weeks. Olby and modified Tarlov scores were used to clinically evaluate the therapeuti...

A retrospective study based on the database of the 2013 archive at the Referral Veterinary Hospital in Egypt was carried out to determine the incidence of canine hip dysplasia in Egypt. A total of 8956 dogs were admitted to the hospital during this year. Dogs with suspected CHD were subjected to complete case history and thorough clinical examination. Final diagnosis of CHD based upon hip radiography and color Doppler ultrasonography.Out of 8956 dogs, 2058 animals had CHD representing 22.9% of the total examined dogs. This parasitic disease is highly infective to human beings and carnivores. The diagnosis march has been comprised the lateral contrast thoracic radiographs, fecal examination, blood profile, endoscopic examination and histopathological sections of deep seated pinch biopsies. These infested dogs have been put under an adopted treatment with Ivermectin injection combined with oral prednisolone. The obtained results reveal absence of the pessimistic recognitions particularly after 3 weeks from the onset of treatment. Endoscopically the presented esophageal nodules are marked out in the distal third of infested dogs' esophagus as masses assigned into the esophageal lumen and fundus of stomach. The endoscopic outlook of Spirocerca lupi lesions has been considered an integral procedure of the diagnostic march and for evaluation of treatment follow up. The diagnostic procedures and ...

Appendicular bone fractures in small animal practice constitute a major challenge facing veterina... more Appendicular bone fractures in small animal practice constitute a major challenge facing veterinary orthopedic surgeons concerning affected limb and bone as well as the extent of tissue damage, site, and shape of the fracture line. Therefore, this retrospective study was designed to provide descriptive data at referral veterinary teaching hospital, faculty of veterinary medicine, Cairo University, and some private pet clinics in Cairo district, Egypt to identify and determine the prevalence of appendicular fractures arising from trauma in dogs and cats treated from January 2017 to January 2020, and emphasizing the information that characterized the population (breed, age, gender, and animal size). The investigated fractures were classified according to the specific limb (forelimbs / hind limbs), specific bone fractures (Humerus, radius and ulna, femur, tibia and fibula, and the other bones), extent of tissue damage (open or closed and incomplete or complete), site (proximal, diaphys...

The tolerability of the developed product was evaluated in 10 moderately exsanguinated (40%) experimental mongrel dogs that were randomized to receive either 40 g/l CHBOC dissolved in lactated Ringer's solution at a rate of 5 ml/kg (Test group-14 trials) or 6 g/l HES 200 solution-6% hydroxyethyl starch (Fresenius Kabi-Germany) dissolved in saline at a rate of-5ml/kg-(Control group-6 trials). Overall, the clinical, haematological and biochemical responses were normal. The CHBOC was well tolerated and a promising product. However additional studies are needed to confirm the safety of the new CHBOC product in the realm of acellular blood transfusion.

We have developed a clinical strategy of cell therapy for SCI through the use of autologous bone marrow cells for transplantation to augment remyelination and enhance neurological repair. In a preclinical large mammalian model of SCI, experimental dogs were subjected to a clipping contusion of the spinal cord. Two weeks after the injury, GFP-labeled autologous minimally manipulated adherent bone marrow cells (ABMCs) were transplanted intrathecally to investigate the safety and efficacy of autologous ABMC therapy. The effects of ABMC transplantation in dogs with SCI were determined using functional neurological scoring, and the integration of ABMCs into the injured cords were determined using histopathological and immunohistochemical investigations, and electron microscopic analyses of sections from control and transplanted spinal cords.
