The Calgary Inferno added talented Minnesota Golden Gophers forward Sarah Davis to their roster via the first round of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League draft on Tuesday night.

The Paradise, N.L., product notched 20 goals and a career-high 49 points during her senior season in Minnesota last winter. And, as an assistant captain, she helped lead the 38-2-1 Gophers to the NCAA women’s hockey final where they lost 5-4 to Clarkson.

Calgary made the 22-year-old the third-overall pick in the draft, behind Canadian Olympian Laura Fortino of Hamilton, who went first overall to Brampton, and American Olympian Megan Bozek, who went second to Toronto.

The Inferno picked former Cornell University defenceman Hayleigh Cudmore of Oakville, Ont., in Round 2 (eighth overall). She is now a University of Calgary law student, so the match is perfect.

In the third round, 13th overall, they added Boston University forward Louise Warren of Pembroke, Ont., who recently skated in Canada’s national women’s development selection camp in Calgary.

Rounding out Calgary’s selections were F Jessica Campbell (18th overall, Cornell University), F Brittany Esposito (23rd, Northeaster), F Kristen Hagg (28th, SAWHA Calgary Chargers), D Samantha Fieseler (33rd, Pursuit of Excellence), D Aina Takeuchi (37th, Japan national team), G Camille Trautman (39th, Red Deer College), F Cailaine Inglis (41st, U of C), D Glenda Edie (43rd, U of Lethbridge), F Christina Kelly (45th, UPEI), G Olivia Ross (47th, Western University), D Rebecca Mosher (49th, Saint Mary’s), D Cassidy Anderson (51st, NAIT) and F Dayna King (53rd, Sask Wheat Queens).

On the weekend, the Inferno also strengthened their chances for the 2014-15 season by trading Jocelyn Larocque to the Brampton Thunder in exchange for forward Bailey Bram, who was one of the last cuts from Team Canada ahead of the Olympics and went on to lead the Thunder in scoring last season.
