The large-scale migration from rural to urban areas searching for jobs to meet their basic needs is the primary reason behind homelessness in these big cities. Homelessness impacts socioeconomic, living, and daily activities and is thought of as a significant roadblock for society and its overall development. The challenges encountered by the needy can be addressed effectively if they are provided with requisite information on jobs, public utilities like- portable water, sanitation, health, and shelter homes. In this respect, a detailed study was conducted to identify the homeless people\u27s information needs and develop a policy framework in regards to the public library services on homeless people. Hence, in this study, various literature was reviewed to identify and underst...

It explores the attitudes of the farmers, especially young generation of farmers equipped with modern and formal education, towards the Traditional Knowledge. Altogether , sixteen 16 different TKs relating to rainfall prediction have been found. The farmers in the study area predict rainfall through their observation, experiences and understanding of nature. Traditionally they use indicators like plant phenology, animal behaviour, direction and intensity of wind and position of moon in the sky etc . to predict seasonal rainfall. It has been found that 44.32% people interviewed rely on their traditional beliefs and knowledge for rainfall prediction. Education of the respondents has great impact on the attitudes towards traditional knowledge. Illiterate people largely think that TK works. Respondents attaining primary to secondary education are also not sure of TK’s scientifi...

Primarily, the authors have identified three major components of disaster preparedness which are social, economic and environmental capital, and further tried to explore how these capitals can be achieved in pre, during and post disaster situation through the services of university libraries in India. Based on the theoretical conceptualization the study forwarded a model named as participatory approach based thematic model for the university library, encouraging more involvements, engagements and active participation from the users and local community. Further, the authors have made critical analysis and logical understanding to propose 16 action plan son the basis of the model that can be implemented through the services of university library in three different disaster situations, facilitating adaptive governance in the community for achieving disaster preparedness.

Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect qualitative and quantitative data from 129 farmers and two government officials. The study reveals that among the available wide range of information sources and learning forms, farmers primarily value local knowledge as it is mainly experience-driven, practical and can be shared or transmitted informally among the farmers. But, informal local knowledge gradually gets influenced by extraneous factors, constructing an alternative pathway that resist the flow of information from reaching to the grass-root level. Limitation of genuine and accurate agricultural information impeded the empowerment of farmers at the micro level which demands for a superior integration among diverse knowledge systems with informal local knowledge. Here, the study identifies a more practical approach for knowled...

Meanwhile the author has opined three major issues: Economical, Psychological and Societal as the reasons behind the school dropouts in India; while theoretical analyses have unveiled that the school library has enough scope and potential to reduce the dropout rate by offering several innovative approaches. Further, the author has investigated the reality and forwarded ten unique approaches (broadly classified into Library beyond school, Increase the reading habit and Empowerment of the student) which could be fruitful to impede the dropout rates in school education and also framed a flowchart to describe the steps of the process. The study shows that the approaches are well construct and self-explanatory and proper implications of those ideas can uplift the literacy rate. Identification of technology needs of any country plays a key role in preparing policy measures and effective action towards sustainable development. Technology Needs Assessments Project, implemented through the United Nations Environment Programme with Technical University of Denmark (UNEP DTU) sponsored by the Global Environment Facility between 2010 and 2018, completed two phases of Technology Needs Assessments (TNAs) in these four countries. There is one common technology need for mitigation in all these four countries has been chalked out i.e., "Ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all" which adheres to the 7 th goal of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the Agenda 2030 of the UNEP and the goal of Agenda 2063 of the African Union (AU) for the transformation of traditional sources to modern sources of energy for ensuring the access of clean and affordable electricity to all the people of Africa. Access to electricity remains very low, ranging from 11.02% to 34.72% of their population with lowest in Burundi and highest in Rwanda. They are not only energy stressed countries but they are also among the poorest nations of the world. This article critically investigates and reviews the Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (STIP) and programmes, S&T infrastructure, Tertiary education, R&D investment, Patent profiles for sustainable or clean energy from 2000-2020 in these four low income countries of Africa. Present study indicates how the development trajectory of the innovation ecosystem of these countries can be a root enabler to achieve the goals formulated in SDG 7 of the UNEP and the Agenda 2063 of the AU as well.

From a methodological standpoint, this paper used both a legal approach and snowball sampling strategy in data collection. To conclude, firstly, it is potential to protect Baul song as Traditional Cultural Expressions (TCEs) using existing su...

With the inception of intellectual property rights (IPR) to protect the innovations almost 500 years back, the free flow of knowledge was obstructed, and further advancement of knowledge is somehow stunted. Emerging open innovation system with the sharing of knowledge beyond geographical boundaries has opened a new door to many possibilities. India, with her vast pool of scientists and engineers, can become an innovation society with a judicious combination of IP and open innovation systems. This chapter seeks to contextualize the trajectory evolves due to philosophical conflict that arises among intellectual property rights (IPR), open innovation systems, innovation society formation in India.
