Queer writing is often seen as a liberation from norms as it decenters the ideals of heternoromat... more Queer writing is often seen as a liberation from norms as it decenters the ideals of heternoromativity. However, while queer writing purports to oppose heteronormativity, it is inevitable that such opposition also places queer writing in a position where it must depend on heteronormativity. This paper would first examine the dialectics of oppression and liberation in the politics of queer writing with reference to the concepts of spectrality, subjectivation, and subversion. Following that, this theoretical framework will be applied to Crevasse by Nicholas Wong, a Hong Kong gay poet, in order to unpack its queerness and interrogate how it opens up possibilities for queer writing to subvert and to destabilise.
