Lilith Leaving-

This was made for the FALLEN CHILD Contest, hosted by StarsColdNight.

Lilith, the first woman, chose to leave The Garden of Eden and Adam.

According to tradition, Lilith was made at the same time as Adam, from the same materials, while Eve was made from Adam’s rib.

In the Bible's Genesis, there were four rivers, which formed the boundaries of The Garden of Eden. Once Lilith had crossed them, she could not, or would not, return.

Thanks to StarsColdNight for hosting and to all the stock providers. This is an interesting theme.

If Lilith and Lucifer were concerned that mankind might not be up to the challenge of looking after Creation, history would tend to suggest that they weren’t entirely wrong.

Sometimes, if something isn’t working, the best thing to do might be to move on and try something else. Maybe, Adam learned something, too. And, everybody knows God(s) love(s) a good story.

This is a sort of sequel/ prequel to **Return to Eden.**-Cat.

Lilith Leaving The Garden

She stepped out into the world and shuddered. It was cold, with a biting wind, crossing the river that formed the boundary of The Garden.

“You don’t have to do this,” They called, from the other side of the riverbank.

She looked back, just for a moment, to see their shining faces. But, she shook her head. She reminded herself, there was a whole, wide world out there, beyond those borders, beyond him.

As she crossed over the river, the “Light Bringer” put a wing around her, helping usher her past the angels, who stood on guard, on the borders of The Garden of Eden.

“Lilith!” They called, from the other side. “You don’t have to do this. You can still come back.”

She shook her head, wrapping her arms around herself, and stepped carefully over the stones, making her way across the river. “I can find my own way,” she told herself, stepping onto the opposite bank.

"Luc-!" They called.

“You’ll regret putting your faith in Man!” He shouted back to Them. “History will show You! You’ll see!”

“We will all see, in Time,” They agreed.

Once she found her footing, and stepped over the border onto the opposite riverbank, she looked back, but she was alone, except for the wolf pup that went with her, and the birds and animals that followed her.

She couldn’t see or hear anything, besides the gurgling sound of the river running over the stones. She took in a long, deep breath. The air was cold, biting, but invigorating. She drew herself up, and scrabbled up the rest of the riverbank.

She had a long uphill climb, if she was going to make her way to a clearing, and find somewhere to rest for the night. It already looked like it would be dark soon; and, she needed to get going, if she was going to find her way in the world.

Notes (From Wikipedia and Bible Hub):

[1] Lilith is Adam's first wife, created at the same time and from the same materials as Adam, Genesis 1:27, and in Jewish folklore, from Alphabet of Ben Sira (ca 700 CE). (As opposed to Eve, who was made from one of Adam's ribs, Genesis 2:22)

The legend developed extensively during the Middle Ages, in the tradition of Aggadic midrashim, the Zohar, and Jewish mysticism.[3]

In the 13th-century Rabbi Isaac ben Jacob ha-Cohen wrote that Lilith left Adam after she refused to become subservient to him and would not return to the Garden of Eden.

[2] God is the Supreme Being. The concept of God described by theologians includes the attributes of omniscience (all knowledge), omnipotence (all power),omnipresence (present everywhere), divine simplicity (immortality), and to some omnibenevolent (all goodness).

In the religious tradition I grew up in, God was considered male and female (or, neither, when a non-corporeal being[1] ), and addressed as They, for the Hebrew (Elohim, Hebrew a grammatically plural noun for "gods" or "Deity" in Biblical Hebrew). (And, when souls passed away, they go to a committee of souls. Yeah, spending eternity in a committee, that sounds like fun. Well, as my Gaffer often said, "We'll find out when we get there.")

[3] Lucifer is the King James Version rendering of a Hebrew word in Isaiah 14:12, meaning "shining one, or light-bearer,"[5] literally "bringer of dawn", or the morning star.[14]

The Latin Vulgate,[15] translates the Hebrew as lucifer,[16][17] meaning "the morning star, the planet Venus", or, "light-bringer".[18]

Later Christian tradition came to use the Latin word lucifer, as a proper name ("Lucifer") for the devil; as he was before his fall.[19] As a result, “Lucifer” has become a word for Satan/the Devil in popular literature",[15] such as in Dante Alighieri's Inferno, and John Milton's Paradise Lost.[13]

Augustine and others theologians attribute Lucifer's being cast out of heaven a result of his pride, or jealousy and envy of humans.[84][85][86] [4] The Garden of Eden is the Biblical "Garden of God", described in the Book of Genesis chapters 2 and 3, and in the Book of Ezekiel.[2][3]

In the second part of the Genesis creation narrative, Genesis 2:4–3:24, God created the first man (Adam), and placed him in a garden.

Angels or Cherubims were guarded The Garden of Eden's borders, "and a flaming sword which turned every way" to guard the Tree of Life (Genesis 3:24).

Genesis 2:10–14 lists four rivers in association with the garden of Eden: Pishon,Gihon, the Tigris, and the Euphrates.

[5] Adam, according to the creation myth[1] in Abrahamic religions, was the first human.

[6] Eve, according to the creation myth[1] in Abrahamic religions, was the first woman, or second, after Lilith, in other traditions. She was created by God (Yahweh) by taking a rib from [2] Adam, to be Adam's wife.

[7] Adam and Eve were later expelled from The Garden of Eden, for eating the Forbidden Fruit, or "The Tree of Knowledge", before they could eat the fruit from the Tree of Life, and live forever.

[8] Guardian Angels are angels assigned to protect, guide, or tutor a particular persons or groups. The concept of tutelary angels was developed by Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite.

Memo:

This is a sort of sequel/ prequel to Return to Eden, submitted to the Return to Eden Contest, hosted by WakefieldDesigns, where the theme was, “You've returned to The Garden of Eden, what does it look like now?”

Return to Eden was also submitted to The Devil in the Details Contest**,** hosted by ArcaneVault, with the challenge to tell the story through the details in the image.

Hopefully, it’s not too late for “Mankind” to work in harmony with Nature, before God or Evolution gives up on humanity entirely.

May is MCS Awareness Month. Multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS) or Environmental Illness is a chronic medical condition characterized by symptoms attributed to exposures to chemicals, such as scented products, pesticides, smoke, petroleum products, paint fumes, etc.

Those who find themselves made ill by chemicals, scents, smoke, fumes, etc, are often compared to “Canaries in the Coal Mine”.

The classic example is the actual "Canary in the coal mine" to worn of dangerous air quality. The idea of placing a canary or other warm blooded animal in a mine to detect carbon monoxide is an old one.[2][3][4]

Well into the 20th century, coal miners still brought canaries into coalmines as an early-warning signal for toxic gases, primarily carbon monoxide.[5]

The birds, being more sensitive, would become sick before the miners, who would then have a chance to escape or put on protective respirators.

It should be no surprise that some people, especially with asthma or allergies, and other health concerns, may be more susceptible to irritants and particulates. Just as some watersheds and areas are more vulnerable to pollution and chemical contamination.

The antediluvian notion that people and the planet have an infinite capacity to benignly absorb chemical contaminants and endlessly harvesting of natural resources, without adverse effect is obviously, painfully, wrong.

Irrefutably, one of the most basic, human rights is to have clean air, water, and food, and a healthy place to live.
