soda old enough to be in primary school (original) (raw)

Things can grow in soda?!?!

Look, if I found a can of OK Soda, I'd drink it. Do you remember OK Soda? It was a soda that came out briefly in the 90s, and it tasted sort of like a mix of orange soda and cola, and the can had black-and-white drawings of bored people on it.

And it tasted ... okay. I bet that, if I opened up a can of the stuff today, the orange flavor would be muted, and the general taste would have switched to a bit acrid and metallic, but that it would be mostly the same. And I bet it would still be okay.

If it was a six-year-old thing of actual juice, or something with actual food in it, okay, that would be a problem. I bet that Capri Sun would have gone by then -- those have significant quantities of actual recognizable food in them, and if the seal becomes even the slightest bit porous, it will turn into a mold-fest. Even Sunny Delight, which DOESN'T have food in it, can go slightly alcoholic.

But I'd be shocked if a soda would have enough actual real ... stuff ... in it for a pathogen to survive.
