Carolina Hurricanes Hockey (original) (raw)

The Draft was awesome! We left the house a little after eight o'clock. We stopped by McDonald's on the way to the RBC Center. Of course, it was raining this morning. It did clear up though, and the rain ruined nothing. We[my little sister and I] got there at about nine o'clock. First we went to The Eye. I bought one of the red draft shirts and a program. Before getting in line for autographs, we checked out all of the trophies, and the Stanley Cup(which I got a great picture of). Besides the Cup, it was really cool to see the Vezina Trophy. I'm a huge goalie fan. We stopped by the hockey cards. I bought myself three cards: Justin Williams, Ilya Kovalchuk, and Eric Staal. I picked up the two free magazines as well.
Afterwords, we got in line for the autograph session. The wait to get Erik Cole, Glen Wesley, and Peter Laviolette's autograph was pretty long. We were in line for almost an hour. I got them to sign my draft shirt. We quickly went over to the Cam Ward, Kevin McCarthy, and Jeff Daniels signing. The line wasn't as long. Most people were still stuck in the other line. All of this was worth the wait though.
When we got all of our autographs it was 11 o'clock, so we went to find some seats. I started out sitting in section 333, but then moved closer to the stage. I was to the right of the floor where all the teams' tables were setup. To no ones surprise, Alexander Ovechkin was selected number one overall by the Washington Capitals. I was close to the fans chanting, "Ovechkin." :) Lucky Washington. I got to meet Ovechkin; I'll tell you more about that later on.
When Gary Bettman announced there was a trade, it was really exciting-especially when I found out the 'Canes were involved. Welcome to the 'Canes, Andrew Ladd!!!! I'm really happy about getting Ladd. The trade was pretty unexpected. Thank God it turned out to be a good surprise. Sometimes JR does some really stupid stuff. I watched the entire first round. Watching the draft on tv is nice, but actually being there is awesome. I mean, I was in the same building as Wayne Gretzky!
I met up with my little sister when the first round ended, and we got in line for the second autograph session. Unfortunately, I couldn't get Eric Staal's autograph. I'm kind of disappointed about that, but I did get Andrew Ladd and Cam Ward's signature. Yeah, I did get Cam Ward's twice. Haha. I had promised someone that I would get Cam Ward's autograph for her and you can only get one thing signed when you go through the line, so that is why. I will have to get Eric Staal's autograph at a practice or something.
Oh, but while we were in line(for forever) for the autographs, I saw Alexander Ovechkin. I went over there to get his autograph, but he didn't have a pen and stupid me didn't either(no one would lend me a pen either). I was so disappointed, but he was really nice about it. He apologized and actually gave me a hug. I don't know why I didn't think to ask to get a picture with him. Here's the annoying part, when I found my sister in the line, I was fiddling through my purse and saw that I had something he could have signed my program with. I was ticked. It's one of those moments where you feel pretty stupid.
Later on, my sister and I were walking around the RBC and saw Ovechkin. We caught up with him outside and this time I got his autograph. He signed my program. Washington is getting a really nice guy(not to mention a fantastic hockey player). He was really great to all of the fans.
For the rest of the time, we just hung out outside and listened to the band. I'm not going to the Draft tomorrow, I have to work, but today was awesome. I'm hoping that we will get the All-Star game sometime soon. ( my draft picturesCollapse )
