_12:09 am_[marahsk][Link] STContario is a go!SFContario is a go, with a hotel and guests of honour and everything. The inaugural convention will take place November 19-21st 2010 at the Ramada Plaza in downtown Toronto. It's a lovely hotel that overlooks Allan Gardens, beautiful greenhouses and gardens that even many Torontonians have yet to discover, and is a stone's throw away from all the restaurants and attractions downtown Toronto has to offer. While an announcement for Author Guest of Honour is yet to come we're thrilled to be able to announce that Patrick and Teresa Nielsen Hayden have agreed to be our Editor Guests of Honour, Geri Sullivan has agreed to be Fan Guest of Honour, and Karen Linsley has agreed to be our Filk Guest of Honour. We're pleased, honoured and excited to have every one of them. Current Mood: bouncybouncy(2 comments | Leave a comment)

_03:24 pm_[devindrover][Link] [Word]: Call for SubmissionsPoetry is one of the most important forms of literary art that has a strong connection with the culture of many people Canada-wide. Beautiful words woven together perfectly with rhyme and rhythm is something that Canadians have a tendancy to do wonderfully - spawning epic works by the likes of EJ Pratt, Margaret Atwood and Robert Finch. With that being said, it is my pleasure to announce "[Word]: A Journal of Canadian Poetry" - A new, eighty page, softcover anthology due out in Winter 2009 from Engen Books, a new outlet for interested Canadian poets who are looking for a new place for others to embrace their work. Interested? Look around the site at http://www.journalofcanadianpoetry.com and find out all about "[Word]: A Journal of Canadian Poetry". - Devin Drover Editor (Leave a comment)

_04:28 pm_[dewline][Link] Ottawa SF Society Meeting Plans: January 2009If you should happen to be in Ottawa in the last weekend of January in the New Year...First meeting of the Ottawa SF Society of 2009 will be at the usual place, Dalhousie Community Centre, on the last Sunday in January. We're going to be doing something different, a bit more free-form, around a general theme:What are you reading in science fiction and fantasy these days? Novels? Comics, be they print or web? What are you watching along the same lines on TV, home video, or at the cinema? Is there something going on at one of the live stage theatres around Ottawa we don't know about yet? Maybe at the Ottawa Little Theatre or the Great Canadian Theatre Company(GCTC)? Somewhere else in town?Maybe something originally for a francophone audience? Or another language altogether? We're hoping to get some answers to these and other questions from each other...and from anyone else who wants to drop in. If you've got an answer for any or all of these questions, we want you to drop in and tell us about it.January 25th, 2 PM, Dalhousie Community Centre, corner of Somerset and Empress.
