To all those interested in the stewardship of events: the next meeting of the Autocrats' Roundtable will be the eveni ng of April 20th\, from 7:30 - 9:30pm. This will be a virtual meeting -- t o join\, go to https://meet. google.com/ush-vumj-fip.
This one isn't going to be quite as stri ctly run as our last meeting\, but there are several topics I'd like to inc lude:
*** Lessons that we have been learning as we begin to run in-p erson events again. This is a chance for a bit of general debrief and disc ussion\, so that we can improve our habits.** *** Resources for autocrats . There have been a number of guidebooks written over the years\, so let's share those\, and talk about useful websites and other stuff that would be helpful to know about.** *** Brainstorming and workshopping event ideas. What would be fun to try? What are some ideas for easier first events\, for folks who want to dip their toes into the water?**
Everyone i s welcome -- no prior event-running experience is required\, just an intere st in how events work. Come on by\, and bring your thoughts on these and r elated topics!

We expect the Rapier Tourney\, as well as Low Company activities\, to begin a round 2pm. Rapier pickups will be happening all day\, and we'll have melee activities after the Tourney.
From the current Rapier Champion:
Greetings\, fencers of Carolingia!
The time to compete for the honor of defending Their Excellencies and serving as Their champion is upon us!< /p>
To win the honor of serving in this role\, each combatant will be put through a gauntlet of fights where they must show their skill\, comportmen t\, and valor against a gallery of selected fighters. Notes: In order to serv e as champion\, one must be capable of attending events with Their Excellen cies and be able to keep safe and store the Baronial Champions sword\, taba rd\, and collar. If you are unable to serve but desire to participate\, ple ase let the MOL know so you may not be selected for the finals.

There won't be a normal online Newcomers ' Night this month -- I'll be flying home from Thanksgiving on the usual ni ght.
*But* our Dancemistress will be traveling next week\, and ha s asked me to fill in for her. So we're going to combine the two\, and mak e next Thursday's Dance Practice into an *in-person* Newcomers' Night\, for the first time in a long time\, and you're all invited!
As the n ame says\, this is a practice. No SCA garb required -- wear normal street clothes that you find comfortable to move around in.
No previous dance experience is needed\, and you don't need to bring a partner: all dan ces will be taught\, and we'll choose different partners for each dance. D ances will be on the easier side\, and will range from sedate to a little b it energetic\, but this isn't going to be heavy aerobic exercise.
To make the evening even better\, we'll be joined by the Waytes of Carolin gia\, who will provide us with live music for dancing\, so it will also be a great opportunity to talk with them about period music if you like!
Dance practice happens at the Presentation Found ation School\, at 640 Washington Street in Brighton. That's on the cor ner of Washington and Tremont Street\, and there's a free parking lot on th e Tremont Street side (40 Tremont Street on your GPS). It's also T accessi ble via the 57 and 64 bus routes. Either way\, it's fairly easy to get to. There are a few small eateries nearby\, and lots more down Washington Str eet\, if you want to grab something to eat beforehand. (I'll be having my dinner in the dance room\, if anyone wants to show up a little early and jo in me.)
We'll be meeting in the Allston-Brighton Room -- from the parking lot\, there's a staircase down from the right-hand entrance (if th at door is locked\, come in the left-hand entrance\, and turn right to get to the stairs). Go through the door at the bottom of the stairs\, and we'r e at the end of the hall. There's also an elevator down\, at the left-hand entrance.
Dancing will start around 7:30pm\, and we'll run until about 9:30\, with a break in the middle.
So if you can\, I encourage you to come by and join us -- it should be a lot of fun\, a great chance to meet some folks\, and the more's the merrier!
Sincerely\,
Justin
