The picture was based on Max Brand’s 1922 serial magazine stories titled, The Gun Gentlemen. That title was retained as the initial working title of the film, but later changed to The Flyin’ Fool, as noted by an 18 Aug 1923 Motion Picture News brief. A 1 Sep 1923 Motion Picture News item suggested that principal photography had begun at the Fox Film Corporation studios on the West Coast. Although the 22 Sep 1923 Exhibitors Trade Review indicated that actor Percy Marmont had participated in principal photography, his appearance in the film could not be verified. Production concluded at the end of Sep 1923, according to the 29 Sep 1923 Exhibitors Herald.
