Note

The first seven chapters of this volume were written by W. L. Sclater, and published in the Geographical journal (1894-97) The eighth chapter was read by P. L. Sclater at a meeting of the Zoological society of London in 1897, and subsequently published in the society's Proceedings. The remaining chapters have been prepared by P. L. Sclater specially for this work.
