Cauldrons and Chocolate Frogs (original) (raw)

Oh Noes! March! [Mar. 14th, 2008|03:22 pm]Cauldrons and Chocolate Frogs
Hello there. As I am sure you noticed, CCF did not have a February issue. Unfortunately I was very sick, in the hospital for awhile even, and Lauren was busy and making a webzine by yourself is infintely hard. But, we will be coming back for an April issue (or May, if everything goes wrong, which may be the case, lol). So fear not! We have not abadoned the project. We would however, like some feedback and support with ideas. If you have any authors/wrockers/any other people to do with the fandom that you would like to see interviewed, please send us an email at ccfstaff AT hotmail DOT co DOT ukIf you want to contribute with an article/essay/rant of any kind, also feel free to send it to us. We will look through it and it may make it's way into the e-zine. We really want to have people participating in this, so we encourage you to give it a try. It can be on ANYTHING YOU WANT as long as it pertains to the fandom. Any feedback, comments, or anything else is also appreciated. :) Have a great month everyone, and I'll be back (eventually) to talk about what's going to be happening in the issue.EDIT: For this issue we would really appreciate it if people would send in rants to us. They don't have to be well written, they just have to say what you dislike about the fandom. You can swear all you want, however the swears will probably be --- in the zine. Thanks a bunch, guys.

The new issue is up! [Jan. 15th, 2008|12:59 pm]Cauldrons and Chocolate Frogs
[Current Mood** |excitedexcited] [Current Music** (never) Do What You're Told - The Remus Lupins]Yes folks, finally it is. Maren has been having some health problems and so I did this one by myself, hence the lateness...I'm very sorry about that. Hopefully you'll like it so much you won't mind, anyway :P That's the plan...So what have we got for you this month? How about The Social Change Issue? Yup, it's all about changing the world. We have an article on how fandom is changing the world, interviews with DJ Rae, Jess (the Minister of Awesome), and none other than Paul DeGeorge and Andrew Slack! You won't want to miss this :P We also reviewed the Rocking Out Against Voldemedia album, and listed 8 reasons why 2008 is going to be great in fandom. You can see all that and more over at the site :)Thanks for sticking by us, we hope you enjoy this issue!~Lauren

Update on the January issue [Dec. 25th, 2007|07:28 pm]Cauldrons and Chocolate Frogs
[Current Mood |busy] [Current Music Red Hair - The Weasel King]Hey guys - happy holidays!!!Have we got some goodies for you next month! We're waiting for a couple of really cool people to get back to us for this article at the moment, but it looks set to be something you will be able to point out to all your Muggle friends when they tell you fandom is stupid and pointless :P I'm sure you have at least one friend like that - doesn't everyone? If not, tell us your name and social security number so we can hunt you down and steal your friends XDElsewhere in the ezine we're interviewing a wrock DJ about wizard rock and who we should listen out for in 2008, getting the lowdown on people's plans for next year, we have a review of Ministry of Magic's "Triwizard LP", in time for their new album coming out next year! We're working away on some other stuff too, including the next "Five Minutes With..." and a little surprise :PI hope you're all having a good day, and we wish you all the best for 2008 :)~Lauren.P.S. We're still looking for some contributions to Word On The Street for this month, with the topic of "My fandom plans for 2008". If you're interested, check out this month's here and then submit a paragraph or two via our contact form. Thank you!

News, social change and the chance to get involved! [Dec. 18th, 2007|02:35 pm]Cauldrons and Chocolate Frogs
[Current Mood** |cheerfulcheerful] [Current Music** I'll Smash a Horcrux for Christmas - The Blibbering Humdingers]Hey guys,We're in the middle of plans for January right now, and it's looking good. We've got one interview arranged, two articles planned, as well as a CD review, and we might have a logo soon! So watch this space. The biggest news is that the number of visitors to the site was pretty low, but for a new start that was expected. However it totally picked up yesterday because the awesomeable cleolinda linked to the interview we did with her! We went from 1 hit the day before, to 221 hits, which was just incredible. I thought we'd had a lot of bots to start off with, until Cleo's livejournal appeared on the "referring links" list. A couple of others have now linked us because of her too, which is amazing :)We're also going to be unveiling a new project after the New Year, again Harry Potter-related...if you're into fanworks - fanfiction, wizard rock, podcasts, fansites, videos etc - you might just love us forever. More news will come about that nearer the time! Now for the social change. If 'causes' interest you, please check out The Harry Potter Alliance because they are working really hard to bring fans together, in order to make a difference :) They also have the coolest logo t-shirts ever...seriously. So buy one and you'll look awesomesauce, while supporting a good cause!!Finally, the chance to get involved. If you're on this community we'll assume that you've seen the ezine. You might remember the "Word on the Street" page? Well, we're looking for contributions for that. While not all contributions will be put in the ezine, all will be available on this community the same day the January edition goes live :) The topic for next month will be "What are your fandom plans for 2008?", and this can include going to one or more of the big conferences - Terminus, Magus, Wrockstock, Portus etc. (I know Wrockstock isn't technically a conference, but let that slide...) - going to some wrock concerts, maybe starting your own band or writing a fanfic. Anything related to Harry Potter fandom :)Please email these to ccfstaff AT hotmail DOT CO .uk (hopefully that's enough to keep the spambots away), or you can send them through our contact form instead. Thanks for reading, and I hope you're having a good day :)~Lauren.

Welcome to the Cauldrons and Chocolate Frogs extras community!! [Dec. 9th, 2007|11:00 pm]Cauldrons and Chocolate Frogs
[Tags**|cleolinda, intro, jingle spells, welcome, whomping willows] [Current Mood** excitedexcited] [Current Music Bridge to the Other Side - Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls]Hey guys! Before we get to the good stuff, there are just some things to say:Firstly, thank you for visiting this community! We hope it will be of interest to you, and of course give you some extra things we didn't put in the ezine...Secondly, we want you to participate as much as possible, and therefore we will be taking all suggestions, as well as holding polls, asking for contributions, and perhaps even holding a competition or two. These things will be available exclusively to CCF readers, so check back for updates and new chances to get involved! Now, just before I tell you what we've got for you this month, I should probably mention that we have two permanent members of staff, both teenage girls, massive Harry Potter fans but also pretty busy with the learning. We both have an interest in fanfiction and Wizard Rock, so there should be a good variety of stuff in the ezine...we hope. If you don't know what Wizard Rock is (depends where you found out about the ezine I guess), then you can get a potted history (that was nearly 'potter' history, oh dear) at www.wizrocklopedia.com, or if you want an even quicker introduction you can see their Beginner's Guide to Wizard Rock here. If you want to contact US, then you can leave a comment here or use the contact page on the CCF website. We also have a staff email address if you'd rather email us direct, which is also on the contact page. Now on to the really fun stuff! In the December issue which has just gone up, we have the following: * An interview with Cleolinda Jones, author of the Movies in Fifteen Minutes parodies * A 'fan fashion' spread * A review of the Leaky Cauldron's "Jingle Spells" compilation CD * A quick chat with The Whomping Willows! Not only that...but there is a collaborative piece where we've asked some wrock artists and fanfic writers to tell us their best fandom moments of 2007, you won't want to miss that! For this and more, check out the first issue here.In a few days time we'll be looking for people to contribute something to the next issue, so keep your eye out for that, and details of what's coming up in the January issue (as well as some extra stuff...we're lovely people, you see) will be on here by December 25 - a holiday present for everyone! We can promise you - it'll be good.~ Lauren
