Solar energy is the most viable energy resource available. With the help of Photovoltaic panels, sun energy is directly converted into electrical energy. In this paper, a remote rural area is considered. Bat optimization technique is implemented to optimize the number of photovoltaic modules and number of battery banks to fulfil the load demand of village; and the goal is to reduce the overall cost of the hybrid system

To improve the power quality of wind generation system a wind-diesel hybrid system is proposed in this paper. The power quality of the system is improved by controlling the excitation and input power of the synchronous generator. The PID controller is used in input power controller. A new optimization technique i.e. bacteria foraging optimization to optimize the PID controller gains is used to improve the power quality of the proposed system.

The issue of power quality has gained popularity in the recent years because of the widespread us... more The issue of power quality has gained popularity in the recent years because of the widespread use of power electronic devices, larger interconnected load networks and widespread use of non-conventional source of electrical energy like wind power, solar power etc. in the power system. The deterioration of the power quality may cause unwanted losses in the system, poor efficiency, interference with the communication lines, and faulty operation of devices and even may cause fault in some devices. In this paper the power quality issue because of the presence of non-linear load connected to the electric grid is discussed and an effort has been made to improve the power quality of the system using a device known as Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC). For this the intelligent controlled UPQC is developed and used with the Grid supply connected to the Non-linear load and percentage Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of voltage and current waveforms is measured in order to determine the power quality at different locations in the system. The intelligent controlled method has been found to have superior performance over the conventional Proportional Integral (PI) controlled UPQC. The results obtained verified using MATLAB/SIMULINK software.

Punjab state is one of the major agriculture production state of India which has great biomass availability through the whole year. More than 40Mt/y has been generated as agri-waste in the state. The present study estimates the power potential of biomass in district Roopnagar of Punjab including Paddy straw as well as different type of crops which are grown in the district and can be used for power generation. Availability of unused agricultural biomass evaluated in present study is 944354.040 tones, which shows that the total potential available in Roopnagar district for data collected for 2014 is 246.184MW.
