This study explores ethnomedicinal plants and traditional medical practices in the Ganga River watershed. A total of 147
respondents provided data on 114 medicinal plants. The
Asteraceae is the largest plant family, with common herbaceous
life forms, and leaves with most frequently used plant part. The
study highlights the high ICF for category 6. Ocimum americanum exhibited the highest UV, while Tinospora cordifolia is
found to have the highestRFC and FL. This study underscores
the importance of preserving traditional knowledge of key

Some symptoms are also developed due to cardiac trouble affecting the breathing duration. Oral intake of decoction, plant extracts of several medicinal plants improves the respiratory troubles and heals the lung and nasal and throat functioning. Exploration of Gangetic plains of West Bengal, from Rajmahal hills to Gangasagar, have been conducted. During the exploration, 338 medicinal plants were collected and specimen vouchers were prepared by usual methods of herbarium teqchnique. Medicinal plants related with respiratory diseases were selected and documented on the basis of authentic evidence through published literatures on pharmacology, phytochemistry of the related plants. During the exploration of herbs related with the formulation of medicines and tradition use of medicines described in different herbal system of medicines in the Gangetic areas, 62 herbs were documented with the useful in the cure of various respiratory diseases having the chemical alkaloids and pharmacological properties are mentioned in this paper. All the 62 herbs having the properties to cure various kinds of respiratory diseases are suitable for oral intake through decoction, cough syrup, tablets, powder and in the form of fresh juice. Pharmacological evidence of these plants are already worked out in different parts of world. Yoga and pranayama described in the text is vigorously helpful in managing the respiratory diseases.

An interesting Argyreia species was observed in the floristic documentation, which was not reported earlier in the floristic literature of Northeast India and identified as Argyreia elliptica (Roth ex Roem. & Schult.) Choisy, which is a new distributional record for North and Northeast India. The herbarium sheets were deposited in Patanjali Research Foundation Herbarium (PRFH), Haridwar, Uttarakhand. A detailed taxonomic description, along with photo-plates, herbarium plate, phenology, ecological notes and distribution has been provided to facilitate easy identification in the present communication.

The region is inhabited by large number of ethnic groups along with migrated population from nearby states thus reflecting cultural integrity of country. A face to face survey was conducted to local housewives in different villages and the traditional healers of that area to gather information about traditional recipes prepared from locally available food grains and other plant species important in Kumauni culture. The survey confirmed that the plant species used for the preparation of the delicious recipes are also medicinally important and used by natives for the treatment of different ailments. In this review a brief description of few of the famous Kumaoni recipes is presented along with important phytoconstituents present in them. A brief description of the medicinal and pharmacological uses has also been given. This study indicates that the Kumaoni people are not only well verse in utilizing the medicinally important natural flora for treatment of different ailments but also in their daily cuisines also. The native people here are simple, hardworking and very hospitable to tourists, usually serving the local food to them. However as per demand of tourist there has been change in the cuisines also.

This plant is also used as traditional medicine in the treatment of asthma. The plant is also reported from other tropical parts of India. A study was conducted to analyse the nutritional potential of leaves of G. hirta by evaluating carbohydrates, fat, proteins, energy, total ash, and water content by standard methods. However, UHPLC profiling as well as HPTLC was performed using an in-house protocol developed at Patanjali Research Institute, Haridwar, Uttarakhand. The presence of flavonoids (0.29%.), and phenols (0.021%.), indicates their nutritional and medicinal importance. The biochemical compounds per 100g, like carbohydrates (11.33g), proteins (0.134g), fats (0.65g), total ash (02.72g), moisture content (83.96g), and energy level (56.53kcal). It represent its appreciable nutritional value, especially as a low-fat diet. The study was performed with the objective of nutritional composition analysis, qualitative analysis of secondary metabolite so that it can be recommended for its maximum utilization for edible purposes.
