Crossing episodes of over 5000 pedestrians were videotaped and analyzed using multivariate statistical methods. Details of timing of pedestrian crossing as well as information about vehicular traffic and signal timing were carefully coded for each pedestrian. Significant safety benefits of the PCS system were found on the long crossings over a street with high vehicular volumes: most pedestrians were able to effectively increase their walking speed to complete their crossing without committing the exit violation-even if they have already committed the entry violation. However, on the short crossing with light vehicular traffic, PCS was generally ineffective in preventing the entry violations from becoming exit violations. Over there, many pedestrians felt safe enough to walk over a short crossing with no apparent vehicular traffic in sight instead of waiting for a green signal. The length of crossing and volume of interfering vehicular traffic were consistently found the most significant variables affecting the crossing violation rates of different categories of pedestrians. Crossing violation rates were the highest for runners, bicyclists and older males. Crossing violation characteristics were found to be consistent over time.

One hundred patients (52 males, 48 females) selected for comprehensive orthodontic therapy were included in the study. They were divided into five study groups, namely the separator group, banding group, initial NiTi group, T-loop activation group, and intermaxillary elastics group. Each patient was given a previously prepared questionnaire regarding the following: time of peak pain, intensity of peak pain, need for analgesic consumption, and effect on routine life. Consumption of medication for pain relief was found to be highest in the separator and the initial NiTi groups. Routine life was affected most in the intermaxillary elastics and the initial NiTi groups, but it was not statistically significant. Statistically significant differences were found between the T-loop activation and the banding groups and also between the banding and the intermaxillary elastic groups with respect to perception of intensity of peak pain. In the separator group, the time of peak pain was experienced at the 24th hour and in the rest of the groups it was at the 6th hour with most patients, although the values were not statistically significant. Peak pain intensity varies from one procedure to another. It was significantly more due to T-loop activation and wear of intermaxillary elastics than banding.

Here we report a case of a 45‑year‑old male patient with testicular tumor and 7 years history of scrotal calcinosis is reported. Discussed is the delay in diagnosis of testicular tumor due to IPSC and difficulty in performing fine‑needle aspiration cytology in such cases. In our case, no evidence of cystic structure was found around calcified materials. It was indicated that IPSC might be idiopathic. In addition, highlighted the importance of meticulous clinical examination to accurately diagnose the clinical entity and avoid delay in treatment. They are slow growing asymptomatic tumors. Complete excision of the lesion along with the involved scrotal skin with scrotoplasty of the residual scrotal skin is the treatment of choice. Reports of such rare calcified scrotal nodular lesions especially when associ...

None had associated temporo mandibular joint ankylosis (TMJA). The fundamental aim in the treatment of TMJA is the successful surgical resection of ankylotic bone, prevention of recurrence, and aesthetic improvement by ensuring functional occlusion. Early treatment is necessary to promote proper growth and function of mandible and to facilitate the positive psychological development of child. Inter-positional arthroplasty with ultra-thin silicone sheet was performed. Advantages include short operative time, less foreign material in the joint space leading to negligible foreign body reactions and least chances of implant extrusion. Instead of excising a large bony segment, a thin silicone sheet was interposed and then sutured ensuring preservation of mandibular height. Aggressive post-operative physiotherapy with custom made dynamic jaw exerciser was used to prevent recurrence.

In order to keep the model simple, we present it under the strong assumption that the disease cannot cross the species barrier. Dynamical behaviors such as positivity, roundedness, stability, bifurcation and persistence of the model, are studied analytically using theories of differential equations. Computer simulations are carried out to substantiate the analytical findings. It is noted that the parameters, c the loss rate of population, the maturation time and f the intraspecific coefficient are the key parameters which we need to control to keep away the mature healthy population from extinction and the infected individuals of the latter species from extinction respectively.

Susceptible humans can be infected when they are bitten by an infectious mosquito. They then progress through the exposed, infectious, and recovered class, before reentering the susceptible class. Susceptible mosquitoes can become infected when they bite infectious or recovered humans, and once infected they move in infectious class. The growth rate of mosquito population density is taken to be logistic. We define a reproductive number, H 0 , for the number of secondary cases that one infected individual will cause through the duration of the infectious period. We find that the disease-free equilibrium is locally asymptotically stable when H 0 < 1 and unstable when H 0 > 1.We prove the existence and local asymptotic stability of endemic equilibrium point for H 0 > 1. By stability analysis of ordinary differential ...

We consider the saturating contact rate of individuals contacts given by J. A. P. Heesterbeek and J. A. J. Metz [J. Math. Biol. 31, No. 5, 529–539 (1993; Zbl 0770.92021)]. The model for carrier-dependent infectious diseases, like cholera, diarrhea, etc., caused by direct contact of susceptibles with infectives as well as by carriers is proposed and analyzed assuming logistic growth of the carrier population. Stability analysis of this model is carried out using usual theory of nonlinear differential equations. Criteria for asymptotic and global stability of an interior equilibrium are obtained. By computer simulation it is shown that if the growth rate of recovery and the intrinsic growth rate of the carrier population increase, the infective human population decreases and increases, respectively. It is concluded from the analysis that if the death rate of the carrier po...
A nonlinear delayed mathematical model with immigration for the spread of an infectious disease c... more A nonlinear delayed mathematical model with immigration for the spread of an infectious disease cholera with carriers in the environment is proposed and analyzed. It is assumed that all susceptible are affected by carrier population density. The carrier population density is assumed to follow the logistic model and grows due to conducive human population density related factors. The model is analyzed by stability theory of differential equations and computer simulation. Both the disease-free (DFE), (CFE) and endemic equilibria are found and their stability investigated. Bifurcation analyses about endemic equilibrium are also carried out analytically using the theory of differential equations. The model study shows that the spread of the infectious disease cholera increases due to growth of carriers in the environment and disease becomes more endemic due to immigration. Numerical simulations are also carried out to investigate the influence of certain parameters on the spread of dise...
