Beachside restaurant is one of Bali's popular tourism industries right now. One of them is Wa... more Beachside restaurant is one of Bali's popular tourism industries right now. One of them is Warung Pantai Seseh, a restaurant and MSME that is located in Seseh Beach, Badung Regency. The primary problem is a lack of English communications skills in the hospitality. To enhance excellent service to tourists, steps to increase English proficiency also are required. Implementation methods used include a pre-test, training, and a post-test which was attended by 11 Warung Pantai Seseh employees. The employees of Warung Pantai Seseh have improved their knowledge and skill in English for hospitality as a result of the community service. Results from the post-test indicate that 81.8% of employees have good English for hospitality skills, with a minimum score of 80.

The methodology of the research is a qualitative descriptive study by conducting a field survey, namely collecting data by providing closed questions that ask the perceptions of stakeholders managing tourism villages in Bangli Regency, community leaders in Catur Village, small business owners in Catur Village, and the Village Heads. The research results are processed using descriptive statistical analysis techniques by visually describing a set of data, which can be done in two parts, namely numerical descriptions, narrative texts, graphics, and in-depth explanations. It chronicles the development of women empowerment program through the cultivation of herbal medicinal plants in a demonstration plot by Universitas Dhyana Pura and in the family medicinal gardens program (TOGA) of the women farmers’ association (KWT) members, followed by the production, packaging, and marketing of herbal products in the form of healing oil, face oil, hair oil, massage oil, scrubs, and herbal beverages. The article follows the four-year empowerment project, beginning in 2016, which since the initiation of Catur as a tourism village (desa wisata) in 2018 has become one of the unique selling propositions of this rural tourism destination. This study examines the divergence between hotel brand naming trends in Bali compared to consumer... more This study examines the divergence between hotel brand naming trends in Bali compared to consumer perception of star rating, price range, and quality based on brand names. When 224 star hotels were categorized based on decade built, apparent trends in choice of name emerged. The use of native names is on a downward trend from 39% before 1990s to only 11% in 2010s, while the use of foreign names have increased from 37% to 77% in the same period. Diverging from said trends, a survey of 100 foreign tourists was conducted on their perception of hotel price and quality on six different name categories. The result shows that native name is the only one associated with higher estimated star rating and price range compared to the actual values (mean difference of 0.35 and 0.34 respectively, α

Brand name is an important feature in hospitality industry, as it shapes a certain perception and... more Brand name is an important feature in hospitality industry, as it shapes a certain perception and influences consumer preference. This study analizes the perception and preference of Indonesian millennial consumers on hotel brand name based on language used, as well as brand name typology. Using semantic-scale questionnaire on 110 respondents in the millennial market segment, paired t-test on nine perception variables indicates that English brand names are significantly perceived as larger, more expensive, more luxurious, with higher star-rating and higher quality compared to Indonesian brand names that are mere translations from the English names. One-way ANOVA also indicates significant difference in mean between Indonesian, English, and non-lexical brand names for all variables tested (p < 0.01). Ketut Bagong Rental partners with academics from Universitas Dhyana Pura (Undhira) and a Heilbronn University student were together to improve the company’s business processes and develop its marketing strategy of market diversification. Catur village, in the mountainous district of Kintamani, the heart of Bali Island, is a region rich in herbal plants. However, the villagers have yet to realize the great potential that they have, and simultaneously they are in search of a unique proposition for their rural tourism development. The team from Universitas Dhyana Pura set out a four-year project for empowering the women of Catur village to be actively involved in their local economic development through education, cultivation, production, and marketing of locally sourced herbal products. This article discusses the second cycle of this project, carried out in 2019-2021. Namun, karena suburnya lahan di Desa Catur, produktivitas kebun herbal induk dan kebun warga menjadi lebih tinggi daripada kebutuhan akan bahan-bahan untuk membuat produk-produk olahan herbal yang selama ini sudah diajarkan. Oleh karena itu, ada kelebihan pasokan bahan baku (excess supply) berupa hasil panen tanaman herbal, baik yang berupa daun, bunga, batang, maupun akar tanaman herbal. This study examines the impact of workplace discipline, transformational leadership, and career d... more This study examines the impact of workplace discipline, transformational leadership, and career development on employee performance at a five-star hotel in Bali. The study was conducted at the Royal Beach Seminyak Bali, which is a part of Accor Group’s MGallery Collection of boutique hotels. The data was collected from 73 employees who were selected using a randomized sampling method using a close-ended questionnaire, which was then analyzed quantitatively using regression analysis. The results suggest that workplace discipline, transformational leadership, and career development positively affect employee performance (sig. of 0.038; 0.032; and 0.028 respectively [α < 0.05]). Meanwhile, the study also indicates that workplace discipline, transformational leadership, and career development simultaneously have positive effect on employee performance (F-count = 31.702, greater than F-table = 2.74, α < 0.01). This research utilizes the mixed method of quantitative and qualitative as data gathering method. The case study that this study observes is the language preparation of the 9 (nine) selected students for student exchange program from SMPK 2 Harapan (Junior High School) Bali under blended learning. It focuses on analyzing the students’ German learning progress both from their macro-skills and their inhibitions’ factors. Throughout the study, it gives also encouraging feedback to every of the students and tries to help the students to cope with their inhibitions’ factors. It takes interests in analyzing the effects of encouragement to students’ self-efficacy which affects their motivation to learn foreign language and the effects on their scores based on the 4 (four) macro-skills.

In 2010, the Governor of Bali launched “BALI Clean & Green” campaign to promote awareness on ... more In 2010, the Governor of Bali launched “BALI Clean & Green” campaign to promote awareness on environmental issues and sustainability on the island. While the success of this program remains debatable, the current paper aims to analyze the logo, slogan, and symbolisms related to this campaign using semiotic theories of Barthes and Peirce. From a descriptive qualitative analysis, this study finds that the campaign portrays an ideal condition of Bali from its logo, slogan, and symbolisms. These elements depict the cleanness and greenness to be achieved quite well, but fall short on prescribing what should be done or steps to take to attain this ideal condition. Although the semiosis elements that make a good sign is present, the general attitude of this campaign is a neutral one and as such making it less than ideal in recommending courses of action to ensure Bali is clean and green.
The choice of brand name is an essential feature for hotels to convey the identity, uniqueness an... more The choice of brand name is an essential feature for hotels to convey the identity, uniqueness and value proposition of each property. The choice of language used is also important, particularly for hotels in multilingual destinations such as Bali. Based on Peirce’s triadic model of signs, this study is an empirical study on the names of 224 star hotels in Bali to determine whether certain naming trends exist. The data is analyzed using descriptive analysis and summary statistics, from which several trends emerge. First, the use of native brand names is declining, from 39% of properties built prior to 1990s to only 11% of properties built in 2010s. Second, the use of foreign brand names is increasing from 34% before 1990s to 77% in 2010s. Third, the mixing of languages in property names have existed since the 1950s and has continued since. Fourth, the choice of property type descriptors have widened and used freely. Descriptors such as ‘Cottage’ and ‘Resort’ have been overshadowed by the more recently popular ‘Villa’ and ‘Estate’.

The SME, which is a form of tourism entrepreneurship, has a critical competitive advantage in the form of in-house renter’s insurance and in-house repair shop. Ketut Bagong Rental partners with academics from Universitas Dhyana Pura (Undhira) and a Heilbronn University student were together to improve the company’s business processes and develop its marketing strategy of market diversification. Catur village, in the mountainous district of Kintamani, the heart of Bali Island, is a region rich in herbal plants. However, the villagers have yet to realize the great potential that they have, and simultaneously they are in search of a unique proposition for their rural tourism development. The team from Universitas Dhyana Pura set out a four-year project for empowering the women of Catur village to be actively involved in their local economic development through education, cultivation, production, and marketing of locally sourced herbal products. Namun, karena suburnya lahan di Desa Catur, produktivitas kebun herbal induk dan kebun warga menjadi lebih tinggi daripada kebutuhan akan bahan-bahan untuk membuat produk-produk olahan herbal yang selama ini sudah diajarkan. Oleh karena itu, ada kelebihan pasokan bahan baku (excess supply) berupa hasil panen tanaman herbal, baik yang berupa daun, bunga, batang, maupun akar tanaman herbal. This study examines the impact of workplace discipline, transformational leadership, and career d... more This study examines the impact of workplace discipline, transformational leadership, and career development on employee performance at a five-star hotel in Bali. The study was conducted at the Royal Beach Seminyak Bali, which is a part of Accor Group’s MGallery Collection of boutique hotels. The data was collected from 73 employees who were selected using a randomized sampling method using a close-ended questionnaire, which was then analyzed quantitatively using regression analysis. The results suggest that workplace discipline, transformational leadership, and career development positively affect employee performance (sig. of 0.038; 0.032; and 0.028 respectively [α < 0.05]). Meanwhile, the study also indicates that workplace discipline, transformational leadership, and career development simultaneously have positive effect on employee performance (F-count = 31.702, greater than F-table = 2.74, α < 0.01). This research utilizes the mixed method of quantitative and qualitative as data gathering method. The case study that this study observes is the language preparation of the 9 (nine) selected students for student exchange program from SMPK 2 Harapan (Junior High School) Bali under blended learning. It focuses on analyzing the students’ German learning progress both from their macro-skills and their inhibitions’ factors. Throughout the study, it gives also encouraging feedback to every of the students and tries to help the students to cope with their inhibitions’ factors. It takes interests in analyzing the effects of encouragement to students’ self-efficacy which affects their motivation to learn foreign language and the effects on their scores based on the 4 (four) macro-skills.

Aturan ini termasuk protokol kesehatan tambahan. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, Program Studi Sistem informasi Universitas Dhyana Pura ikut berpartisipasi dalam penerapan protokol kesehatan tambahan kepada masyarakat, khususnya pendataan pengunjung dalam penjadwalan kunjungan di objek wisata pantai Munggu, Badung, Bali. In 2010, the Governor of Bali launched “BALI Clean & Green” campaign to promote awareness on ... more In 2010, the Governor of Bali launched “BALI Clean & Green” campaign to promote awareness on environmental issues and sustainability on the island. While the success of this program remains debatable, the current paper aims to analyze the logo, slogan, and symbolisms related to this campaign using semiotic theories of Barthes and Peirce. From a descriptive qualitative analysis, this study finds that the campaign portrays an ideal condition of Bali from its logo, slogan, and symbolisms. These elements depict the cleanness and greenness to be achieved quite well, but fall short on prescribing what should be done or steps to take to attain this ideal condition. Although the semiosis elements that make a good sign is present, the general attitude of this campaign is a neutral one and as such making it less than ideal in recommending courses of action to ensure Bali is clean and green.
The choice of brand name is an essential feature for hotels to convey the identity, uniqueness an... more The choice of brand name is an essential feature for hotels to convey the identity, uniqueness and value proposition of each property. The choice of language used is also important, particularly for hotels in multilingual destinations such as Bali. Based on Peirce’s triadic model of signs, this study is an empirical study on the names of 224 star hotels in Bali to determine whether certain naming trends exist. The data is analyzed using descriptive analysis and summary statistics, from which several trends emerge. First, the use of native brand names is declining, from 39% of properties built prior to 1990s to only 11% of properties built in 2010s. Second, the use of foreign brand names is increasing from 34% before 1990s to 77% in 2010s. Third, the mixing of languages in property names have existed since the 1950s and has continued since. Fourth, the choice of property type descriptors have widened and used freely. Descriptors such as ‘Cottage’ and ‘Resort’ have been overshadowed by the more recently popular ‘Villa’ and ‘Estate’.
