Blanket octopus | [14 Mar 2008|05:54pm] |
---|---|
[ mood | busy ] This was posted in another of my LJ communities...I'd never even heard of a blanket octopus before! When threatened, this type of Tremoctopus, or blanket octopus (murasakidako in Japanese), unfurls a giant sheet of webbing that trails behind like a cape. The cape easily breaks apart when attacked — much like a lizard's tail — and it gets wrapped around the predator's face, allowing the octopus to flee. | |

What IS this!? | [30 Apr 2007|04:43pm] |
---|---|
**What IS this!?**My friend sent this to me from West Virginia. They live near a river. I am one hundred percent stumped as to what this creature is. I talked it through with my other invert friend and he was as stumped as I am. Also, my hypothesis that it was the rotting top of a dandelion or some sort of flower like that was dismissed when she told me that the thing moved around and walked or squirmed or whatever. | |
