Today, we were proud to participate in the Biden-Harris Administration’s White House Super Pollutants Summit and to announce over 300millioninnewfundingtocontinuethisimportantwork.Sinceitsinceptionin2021,theGlobalMethaneHubhashelpedcatalyzeover300 million in new funding to continue this important work. Since its inception in 2021, the Global Methane Hub has helped catalyze over 300millioninnewfundingtocontinuethisimportantwork.Sinceitsinceptionin2021,theGlobalMethaneHubhashelpedcatalyzeover10 billion in methane reducing project investments by convening funders focused on addressing climate change and strategically regranting $200 million to 114 grantees conducting methane reduction work in 152 countries. This summit highlighted the recent progress the U.S. has made in addressing super pollutants both domestically and internationally, as well as raised awareness of the importance of tackling climate super pollutants like methane. We’re in a sprint to lower methane emissions to save our planet, and it will take a concerted effort from governments, philanthropies, and industry leaders in the fight to reduce harmful emissions. Sessions like this, along with the ongoing work our incredible partner network is doing, go a long way to do just that. https://lnkd.in/e-DN5vJC

Ecuador is taking bold steps to protect its mangroves — natural climate champions, which act as buffers against rising seas and extreme weather. The new “Mangroves for Climate” project, funded the Green Climate Fund, will reduce flood risks for nearly 200,000 people and support sustainable economic growth. This is a huge win for both the environment and local communities. #MangroveDay https://lnkd.in/ejA3tXgT

New paper in Land, led by my colleague Dr. Summer Allen 🎉 Proud to be a co-author on this study of the transition of Ecuador's Union of Cacao Peasant Organizations (UNOCACE) to dynamic cacao agroforestry, and the potential of these systems to support more resilient livelihoods, soil health, and biodiversity, when compared to monocropping. Open access here: https://lnkd.in/dabxi6utSending gratitude to co-authors Lenin R and José López Ganem, as well as to the many colleagues who supported this research: Victor Bajana and Steven Leon of UNOCACE, Bastienne Paliz, Antoine Ambert, Victor Barrera of INIAP, Petra Heid, Alexander Brunner, Joachim Milz, and the hundreds of cacao producers (unnamed to preserve their privacy) who shared their expertise with us. Jill Kauffman Johnson Emma Frawley, you made this possible #agroforestry #ecuador #chocolate #livelihood #biodiversity #soilhealth #cocoa #research -

Erol is thrilled to welcome Virginia Barreiro to the team as a Strategic Advisor. Virginia will be working with the team to advance Erol’s Regenerative Food Systems work, building on our current efforts and strengthening relationships with our broader network and partners. Virginia brings over 20 years of experience working with NGOs and the private sector in emerging economies to advance practices toward inclusive, nature-positive economic growth that aligns with a 1.5°C climate pathway. She has worked in the US and internationally on agri-commodity supply chains, landscape and jurisdictional approaches, and environmental and social standards, engaging with a range of stakeholders from smallholder farmers to impact investors. Before joining Erol, Virginia was a Senior Expert for the Global Markets Practice at WWF International, working on deforestation and conversion-free commodity supply chains. Prior to her work with WWF, Virginia lived in Indonesia for seven years, working to improve practices within forest-risk commodity sectors. Virginia is from Buenos Aires, Argentina, spent much of her childhood in Panama, and is currently living in California. -

Erol has been a host site for the Environmental Fellows Program (EFP) over the last two years. Erol is excited to welcome PwintPhyu Nandar to the team this summer as an Environmental Fellow. EFP, housed at the Yale School of the Environment, strives to diversify the environmental field through its 12-week summer fellowship. The program connects graduate students from historically underrepresented backgrounds to environmental non-profits, grantmakers, and government sectors. Fellows work on environmental issues relating to conservation, justice, equity, and philanthropy. Pwint grew up in the Bay Area and was motivated to study environmental science when her family moved to Richmond, within a 10-mile radius of the Chevron Refinery. In May 2024, Pwint received her Master of Environmental Science degree from Yale School of the Environment. Her master’s thesis investigated how Greater New Haven residents access their culturally desirable foods. The issues she will be researching at Erol are near and dear to her heart, as she will carry out research for Erol’s #ClimateAction and #RegenerativeFoodSystems program areas. Welcome Pwint! 👏 Photo caption: Pwint tours the Recology Collection facility in San Francisco, California, with the NextWorld team. -

4 million pounds. 🚮 That’s how much waste Recology, the Bay Area’s leading waste management company, collects every day, as we learned this week during our visit of their facilities. 📚 Through this visit, we aimed to educate our ecosystem’s teams on how to think of waste: • Upstream - by understanding the lifecycle of materials and the importance of sustainable design, we can drive impactful change with the non-profits and companies our ecosystem supports. • Downstream - by improving the way we handle waste in our office and beyond, we walk the talk internally. 🌍 Thank you to Recology for hosting us and to NextWorld, NextWorld Evergreen, 836M, Erol and Fellow team members for their enthusiasm and commitment to making a difference. #SustainablePackaging #ZeroWaste #CircularEconomy #Recology #ESG -

Last month, NextWorld and Erol were honored to have Darryl Molina Sarmiento, Executive Director of Communities for a Better Environment (CBE), join a panel discussion on the environmental and public health impacts of oil drilling and refineries in residential neighborhoods. Darryl shared CBE’s efforts to educate the public about the dangers of fossil fuel projects like oil drilling near schools and residential areas, emphasizing the urgent need to transition to a clean energy economy in California. As an Erol partner, CBE has co-chaired STAND-L.A., a coalition dedicated to ending oil drilling in Los Angeles, and has led initiatives to raise awareness about oil refinery impacts in Richmond, California. A big thanks to Darryl for sharing her insights and her outstanding leadership! -

🌺 🐝 Our teams, Erol, 836M, and NextWorld Evergreen, gathered on our NextWorld office rooftop to celebrate Earth Week...we harvested honey from the beehives, not just as a team-building activity but as a testament to our commitment to sustainability! Bees are not only vital pollinators but also key indicators of environmental health. By nurturing these tiny yet mighty creatures right here on our office rooftop, we're not just producing honey, but actively supporting biodiversity and ecological balance. This experience reminded us of the interconnectedness of all living things and the importance of our stewardship of the Earth. Let's continue to work together towards a more sustainable future, one sweet step at a time! 🍯 #EarthDay #EarthWeek #Sustainability #TeamWork #SaveTheBees Alex Gallagher Antonio Martinez Brendon Milla Céline Ricci Demi Espinoza Jill Kauffman Johnson Julie Lepinard Marie-Elodie Bazy (Jung)Nancy Aquino Paola Halley Robert Smith Sebastien Lepinard Yulissa Serrato
