Coffee is at the heart of everything we do, and consumer satisfaction is why we do it. Our story started with one simple idea: everyone should be able to make the perfect cup of coffee at home. Something we still believe today, which is why we think delivering the highest quality coffee, sip after sip, is so important. To achieve this, we continuously strive for innovation. Our coffee experts look for the world’s most exclusive coffees, and create new and exciting blends through a very strict coffee selection process. We create exceptional coffee experiences by continuously reinventing our coffee system, and the way coffee lovers can enjoy our coffee, transforming coffee culture on a global scale. We are committed to making a positive impact. We source our coffee from unique regions, working in partnership with over 110 000 farmers through our Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality™ program around the world. We help them achieve high certification standards – for example in water management, biodiversity and fair worker treatment – through our long-term partners Rainforest Alliance and Fairtrade international. At Nespresso, we offer personalized services to our Club Members: from delivery and repair to customer care and recycling systems. We are in direct contact with coffee lovers through our e-commerce platform, boutiques and social media, allowing us to anticipate and cater to their every need. We also provide a full range of machines and coffees to meet the specific needs of the world’s most foremost hotels, restaurants and business customers. What’s behind your cup of coffee’s carbon footprint? It’s all in the beans… In fact, the cultivation and sourcing of the beans themselves has the biggest environmental impact on your daily brew. Nespresso CEO Philipp Navratil explains in this post.

🌱 Uncovering the Impact: Why The Sourcing Of Your Coffee Beans Matters Most In Your Cup's Carbon Footprint 🌍☕️ Did you know that the biggest contributor to your cup of coffee's carbon footprint isn't the brewing or packaging? I’ve always loved coffee. So much so, that I’ve made it my life’s work, clocking up years of experience in the industry. Given how integral coffee is to so many of our lives (over 400 billion cups of coffee are consumed globally each year!), I thought it’d be insightful to share some facts about its environment impact including the carbon footprint. Some of them might actually surprise you. With the help of Quantis we have conducted a peer-reviewed life-cycle analysis (LCA) to understand the environmental impact drivers of a cup of coffee, including the growing of the coffee beans, packaging, transport, machine production, recycling of the of the coffee capsule and washing of the cup. And what it showed is that the actual cultivation of the coffee beans accounts for nearly half of the total carbon footprint. And this trend holds true for other popular brewing methods as well. Equally as interesting, a lungo cup of coffee brewed with the Nespresso Original system has been found to have a 24% lower carbon footprint than a bean-to-cup machine! How? By using just the right amount of coffee, water and energy for each cup. 💡 In sustainability – as in all things – it can be easier to understand when put into perspective. For example, cooking pasta for one person in 1L of water can have about the same carbon footprint as drinking four cups of coffee with a Nespresso Original system! Now of course, we all have a role to play. At Nestlé Nespresso SA, we’re committed to reducing our environmental impact throughout our supply chain. That's why we're working closely with over 150,000 coffee farmers to adopt regenerative farming practices at scale. Together, we can protect, sustain, restore, and replenish our natural ecosystems. 🌱 Finally, for the first time, I wanted to open-source the actual data necessary for those who want to dive deeper or even conduct their own evaluation here: https://lnkd.in/e23dcHg7Alternatively, if you're looking for a quick overview, we've also got a simple video ready for you: https://lnkd.in/eKkHEqe7So, let's reflect on our personal consumption choices and how they drive our carbon footprint. Together we can make choices that lower our carbon footprint and in the process create a more sustainable future, one cup of coffee at a time! ☕️🌍#Nespresso #LCA #coffee #carbonfootprint

As you sip your favourite Nespresso coffee on International Coffee Day, why not sit back and take a moment to think about where your beans come from? Regenerative agriculture is nothing new: in fact, it’s as old as time. For thousands of years, humans have worked in harmony with nature to grow crops while respecting and maintaining the balance of natural ecosystems. Now, farmers are reverting to those traditional approaches, harnessing the power of nature to regenerate itself. It’s an approach which focuses on cultivating healthy soils, promoting biodiversity, and protecting natural ecosystems, restoring crops’ resilience to the impacts of climate change, reducing agricultural emissions and equipping the land to sequester more carbon from the atmosphere. Most crucially, it puts farmer livelihoods at the forefront: regenerative agriculture requires fewer inputs and increases yields, so farmers save money while increasing their income. We’re working in partnership with Rainforest Alliance to support 150,000 farmers in this transition.
