Hashing?

The Hogtown Hash House Harriers came to my ski club's summer promo night last night and I spent a long time talking to them about hashing. It's basically a 4-7k cross country run where one person (the hare) sets a trail of their choosing and then the whole pack attempts to follow it. There are dead ends, false trails, forks, etc and, at about the 2/3 mark, there is a beer check where everyone stops for a drink. lol All this serves to keep the pack together because it slows the faster guys (Front Running Bastards), allowing the slower guys to catch up. Afterward, everyone goes to a pub for more drinks and socialising. Once you've done a few hashes and they feel like they know you, you are given your hash name by which you will be known to other hashers forever after. It's an international running hobby so, if you go on vacation, you can do hashs there and always have a group to run with. Some of the ladies I met last night had traveled to Europe and Australia for hashes.

Anyway, it sounds awesome! Anyone want to try a hash the last week in May? Either the Mon or the Thurs one? It's $5 which includes one drink at the beer check. Anybody can come and you don't have to join anything or be a good runner. There are also women's hashes every other Thurs where anyone can run but the rules of the hash are biased toward women and most of the participants are female. There's one of those on the 20th. http://www.hogtownh3.com

More on hashing because I didn't have a clue either!

Help! I fell off the wagon!

So I got lazy after my first 5k and haven't run all winter. I know why this happened (none of the races I wanted to do through the fall/winter worked with my schedule so I had no goals to meet + ski season started and I told myself I was getting lots of exercise there which is not really true). Now I want to know, how do I get back into it? :/

I considered doing the Runner's World 5k program again, like I did last summer, but I'm not sure it's necessary to start all the way at the beginning building from 1x1. Any ideas? I eventually want to try the 10k program Jackie posted and build up to that. :)

I'm thinking about doing this one...is anyone here doing it?

Does anyone have the training schedule starting at week 5? I want to have a look and see if I can pick it up and go. I've been basically doing bupkiss since the half 3 weeks ago.

I think I may have accidently did a fartlek run!

I did 6K tonight...it was a very strange run!

I started off running fast intervals and jogging between - but after about 15 or 20 min I was getting cramps so switched it up and jogged slow for a few min. Then got bored. Then stopped and reset the treadmill to a hill program! I have to get used to hills because I'm sure the real run will have some here and there...so I did that for about 20 min. Then walked it all out. I was all over the place! hehe

Then I did about a half hour of weights.

I learned something new today!!!

I usually run about 5.3 mph which puts me between 6m30s and 7m20s per Km. Today I slowed the belt down to 4.5.....I was going THE SAME FUCKING SPEED (using nike sensor)!!!!! WTF? and holy crap was it easier on my joints and smoother and I didn't feel like I was dying! I am SO going to do that again!

Anyway...that is my new thing! A slower belt doesn't mean a slower me...but it means a less jarred and hurtie me!

Ok bitchezzz...I am cross-training a bit now.

I just did a bike ride on level 9 (which felt like probably 5????) and did 7 miles at 12-13 mph and burned 500 cals. I'm not buying it.

Way too easy.

Strange.

At least you finished the 5 Km you were supposed to but fuhk.

I was just looking at my nike+ output from my last run...at one point I was running 5'54 per Km!!!! I have never run anything under 6 min per Km and that feels insane to me. I am usually about 6'45 to 7'10. I was zooming. Intervals!

I've had a really hard time getting motivated to run lately.

So I'm trying to fool myself. I am telling myself for this week and next it's ok if I only run 3 Km at a time...which is about 20 min and I can commit to that as long as I do that 5 or 6 times a week. So far I have 2 of those down. Not bad.

I did an interval run today at 5.0 and 5.8 and did my fastest mile yet.

Dec. 12 I start the training for the half. My short run is then 4 miles so I need to get my ass in gear.

I wanted to run yesterday but didn't...I went and had a decadent meal at Ruth's Chris with my sister instead! hehe...omfg mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm (Thank you Peter & Nancy!!! I FINALLY used that gift card!)

I took a lunch for the first time in weeks and went to the gym and ran 5 Km. So I now have two runs under my belt this week which is much better than zero last week and 1 the two weeks before that. I will run again tomorrow so I will get in three.

Just keep running running running...just keep runnnnnning (ala Dorie)
