My wife was telling me about a legend of a house built by an architect that was going crazy and thought something evil was out to get him so he built crosses into every single wall, door frame, window, etc. Can anyone give me some more info on this? Google search isn't coming up with anything. Thanks!S~ |

I'll prolley be helping with a local LARP that will focus on legends of this area. Think nightstalker or x-files or supernatural only set here. I have a few ideas but looking for more. Got any good local legends? |

Hello. I also grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and have recently returned home after living "over the mountains" to the north for about five years.I am acquainted with some of the more widely known ghost stories and legends in Chattanooga, and recently have taken over a group organizor position with a Chattanooga Ghost Hunting group. Are there any safe, open to the public places we could take a "field trip" to? Also, if anyone knows of any of the more obscure local legends, I would love to hear them! |

Hey there. Well I live in LaFayette GA just about 30 mi south. Have you ever heard of DWM or CW? AKA Devil Worship Mountain and Corpse Wood? Well its a mountain in Trion (10 min from here. HEre is part of the story of why SO many people visit DWM.Corpse Woods is a place where two murders took place. The two men that were murdered, Dr. Scudder, and Mr.Odem, were homosexual devilworshippers. It's understandable that peoples imaginations run a bit wild when they go see the remains of the manor. Rumors have it that the place is haunted, of course they are just rumors ... right? Either way, you can read about those rumors,or you can read about what happened that night on Dec. 12 1982. Both are equally creepy .Ive been there many times. The web site is very interesting so check it out. I'm not sure who created it but never the less its nice.http://www.geocities.com/corpsewoods/ |

One of the biggest battles of the Civil War was fought right here in town on Missionary Ridge, currently the site of the McCallie School. Well anyways, almost 2 years ago I was at a concert at McCallie and I took a picture of one of my friends. I didn't notice until I got home that there was something in the bottom left corner of the picture. I plugged my camera into my computer, looked at it, then shrugged it off figuring it was just my breath in front of the camera (it was winter after all). Well a little bit later that night, I came accross the picture again and noticed it had almost a human quality about it. I zoomed in on the white thing and enlarged the image. Personally when I look at it I see a woman with her hair in a bun carrying something (maybe a basket) but I dunno.Anyways, I don't have the original copy on this computer, but I do have the zoomed in and enlarged version. This picture hasnt been edited any except zoom and enlargement. Click here for it. |

Very very cool. :) I've always had a fascination with all things unexplained and while I lived in Ohio, I could tell LOTS of things, but since moving down here, I've heard very little. I do know some, though. :)First, I read a book about the Bell witch. Not in Chattanooga, but at least in TN. :)I used to have a friend down here.. one day she went up on Signal mountain to take pictures. She stopped at a church and took some pictures of it. When she got them developed, there was a glare on the side of one. She brought the pictures with her to visit me in Ohio and decided to play with them. I opened it up in photoshop, isolated the glare and started to play with the brightness and contrast, until I saw something. And boy, when I saw something, it was UNDENIABLE. It was an older-ish man, in a gray-ish uniform, with a hat, a beard and a gun. I think i still have the pictures somewhere, and I will try my best to dig them up and figure out how to post them on LJ.*shrug* That's all for me. But I'm really happy to see this community. :) |

Hi, and welcome to Chattanooga Legends. I started this community because our area has so much history, and I've rarely heard any urban legends that don't involve the Chickamauga Park. Surely, there must be more out there, and I've just not talked to the right people. This is really a result of my own personal searching, but I figure there must be more people in the area with the same obsession with urban legends and folklore that I have. We need a place where we can get together and discuss. This community isn't just ghost stories and monsters. This is a place to discuss history too small for books, but no less important. It's a place to talk about abandoned buildings and exploration. It's even a place to discuss oddities that no one you know has seemed to heard of before. It doesn't even have to be in Chattanooga, directly. The surrounding area counts just as much. And it doesn't matter if it happened to you, your best friend, or the girl who was in first grade with your great aunt. We're interested. Really we are. |
