Contest of Doom! And our own forums. This week we give your ChipWits a chance to ZAP their way to a free t-shirt. Head on over to ChipWits.com , download the latest build (178), and IBOL up a ChipWit fit for the Prestigious Hall of Pie.

We've set up forums at chipwits.informe.com . Please join us there to talk about the contest, bugs, and making ChipWits a better game.

New Contest This Weekend I'll post a new build by Sunday and announce another Hall of Pie Competition. This contest will be a ZAPfest in either ChipWIt Caves or Doom Rooms.

We'll be opening our own ChipWits forums this weekend, too.

Margaret is feeling a lot better. I am currently forcing her to draw flies around a trash can.

New Build Up - Lots of Sweetness Check out the latest build on ChipWits.com . Once I get feedback that build 177 isn't blowing up anybody's computer we will run another contest.

I included all the contest winners in the sample ChipWits. And I built a sad little ChipWit called PathetiBot - it's in the silly directory in the chipwits files.

If you have participated in playtesting (pre-today 2/14/07) and want a free serial number email bugs @ chipwits.com and we'll send you one.

Lots of dead bugs in this build.

And Margaret is sleeping well tonight.

The winner is Relee's Owlwit 2! She wins her choice of anything under $25 from the exclusive ChipWits Store.

Second and Third spot belong to:
2 - Mark Roth's greedy-discwit - 9,467 (14,200)
3 - trojo's lefty - 8957 (13,000)

(High Score)

Klaus and BPotetz also entered ChipWits. They were kind enough to send in their entries to help me hunt down the bugs that screwed them up.

No 14-year olds entered this week.

Thanks a bunch for playing and bughunting.

Margaret and I are going to rest for a couple days and then I am going to kill that danged RANGEFINDER bug and get ELECTROCRABs working for our next contest, which we'll announce this weekend.

It's been a great week of playtesting and bughunting. I really appreciate the time you put in and hope you had more fun than frustration.

Be sure and send your contest entries to contest AT zogax.com No entries yet in the 14 and under category so it's wide open for kids.

We've got 5 contenders so far in the Unlimited Age Bracket.

After we release the final downloadable ChipWits we are going to build an online multiplayer ChipWits game community - ChipWits Online.

Those that enter the contest and those that send in bugs and comments on how to improve the game will get some prestigious ChipWits Online virtual bling. So don't be shy.

Tonight's build - 173 - will be the official contest build I am going to snuff as many bugs as possible today. I am feeling good so I should get a number of them.

Margaret is collecting all reported bugs and updating our chipwits.com bug list.

Based on Margaret and my usual schedule we will drop the build ~4 AM Central.

Contest ChipWits MUST run on this build - no use saying that they would have won if Dr D just fixed 1 more measly bug. Programmers have to work around bugs and make things work in the ChipWits world just as in the real world.

I am very pleased with how playtesting is going. I wanted a small group of good testers and we got it.

I work slowly because of my brainrot and this small group has motivated me without swamping me.

We will hold one more week-long contest before we start publicizing ChipWits broadly.

Next week will will have a new look at chipwits.com with our own forums.

Thanks, everyone,

Doug

Contest! We just released a new build of the game. Still has bugs, but is playable.

The contest is to build a Chipwit for the Advanced Mission named Greedville. It's a location full of only good things for a Chipwit to eat. Pie, oilcans, and CDs (the CDs are very rare and worth a lot of points). Save your Chipwit, send the file to us by Saturday 2/3/07 at Midnight Central. We will run each Chipwit through Greedville 20 times, and whoever has the highest average score wins a Chipwits t-shirt of their choice.

More details on the contest here:
http://chipwits.com/contest.htm

Download the latest build of Chipwits here:
http://chipwits.com/playtestframeset.html

Known bugs:
http://chipwits.com/bugs.html
(Also the SAY chip, although very fun, has a chance of freezing your computer, so be careful with it for now)

I also recommend saving your Chipwit often, as there are bugs so there's always a chance the program will crash. If you get any error messages or find any bugs, please post them here.

This build starts out in the Intro Missions. If you want to play through the intro missions, there's sometimes a bug when they start where you need to go to the Missions menu and click "Restart Intro Missions" a few times until it works. If you want to go straight to the Advanced Missions, hit the Options button and then the Advanced Missions button, then choose Greedville from the Missions menu.

A useful new feature- The "HELP" button brings up a guide to all the programming chips, as well as general information about how to use the program. I'd recommend checking that out. Eventually the Intro Missions will act like a tutorial to teach you how to use all the chips, but those aren't complete yet.

Revised 1 Report on the Algorithmic Game Chipwits The number-one problem I had was the learning curve. The levels went from very simple to impossibly difficult with nothing in-between. What follows are some general notes I took while playing, if you want me to clarify anything I will.

Onward, ChipWits soldier I am still playing Indiana Jones in old ChipWits missions. I discovered some gameplay twists in the design of the mazes.

I can see that it will be a day or two more until I am ready to release all 8 original missions, so I will concentrate on releasing Greedville tomorrow for the first ChipWits tourney.

Yonjuunana is hard at work designing ChipWits t-shirts. So save your allowances, gang.

Exploring ancient mazes I'm recreating the original 8 missions ChipWits missions by exploring the old mazes with a keyboard-controlled ChipWit. Computer Game Paleoarchaeology.

Fixed the online documentation .

I'll drop a new build tomorrow with the 8 original missions. And I shall challenge you all to beat the ChipWit I develop to score points in Greedville.

Back to the mazes,
