There exists adequate literature on the nexus between political ideologies and public institutions yet, there is hardly any explicit attention paid to the field of tourism research. It may perhaps due to the impression that ‘politics is all about power.’ In fact, Gramscian’ s notion of ‘power-over’ in the context of preserving cultural hegemony confines the prospects of political discourse to ‘power-itself’. This notion was contested through a poststructuralist thought, ‘power-to’, proposed by Michel Foucault. Thus, the present paper extends the poststructuralist thought by exploring the potential areas in politics that shape the outlook of the tourism industry through a critical analysis of literature. The study argues that the associated political effects are critical to the field of tourism at the same time the tourism industry is also a potential means to promote and showcase the political ideology.

Tourism, a mechanism proven to bridge gaps between cultures was worst affected on a global level and the only flotation device utilized were policies. Yet, States with different political ideologies, how have they responded in reality? Which ideology has become a tool to design the policy to address tourism crisis caused by the pandemic? remained an unexplored field of research. To address these questions there is a need to look at the policies initiated by selected countries representing varied political spectrum to analyse the pragmatically working ideology during/after the pandemic. Therefore, this study aims to observe the complexities of crisis management and the shift of ideology between the usual state of government to the adoption of a foreign even opposing ideology to rebuild after an unprecedented catastrophe. To enunciate its shift, the methodology divides its...

Research paper thumbnail of Competency in Police Administration: A Study of two Police Units in Andhra Pradesh

Besides being a central resource in itself, for productive utilisation of human resource requires police management to keep the subordinate police officers in high competency bracket. In other words, competency is a necessary condition for effective policing. It helps the police organisation to meet the challenges that have surfaced due to the globalisation and technological proliferation. The purpose of this article is to understand how the competency of the police personnel is being influenced by the managerial factors. However, this perspective is different from traditional ways of viewing competence in the strategic management and organisational theory literature. The present article argues that competency in police organisation is not only determined by the quality and composition of resources per se, but also the way in which they are being...

Research paper thumbnail of Human Rights and Religion: Perspectives and Retrospectives

There exist different viewpoints to understand human rights concept. Western people viewed human rights which emancipate individuals from state, Africans and Asians observed human rights as a means which emancipates them from socio, economic and cultural suppression. But diverse perspectives are connected to a common concept called 'negative freedom'. It means human rights ensure 'individualism' as well as 'liberalism'. But when it comes to the issues of religion and its implications with human rights there is hardly any debate, we can find, in the human rights literature. Therefore, the present paper focuses on the relationship between human rights and religion and explores several theses and counter theses. One school of thought argues that absolute practice of human rights can be ensured through the exclusion of religion. Contrarily, another school of thought believes that both are mutually inclusive. In this regard, the paper analyses the core debates of both schools of thought in the western literature context and argues that the nature of the relationship between human rights and religion remains dialectical.

Research paper thumbnail of Innovations in Police Organisation in India: A Study of Two Police Commissionerates

Despite this there was hardly any attempt made by the governments to reform the system. Yet, last two decades have witnessed a range of innovations in policing. Among them community policing has been observed as one of the widely diffused innovations. According to the diffusion of innovation theory (DIT) it is very important to create a conducive organizational environment to institutionalize the innovation. In this paper community policing is presented as an innovation and tried to conceptualize DIT in Indian police organisation context. Further, the paper tried to explore the factors determining the diffusion of innovation in Indian policing. For this purpose, "Cyberabad" and "Trichy" Police Commissionerates of Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu states of India were selected and its diffusion and adoption processes of community policing are sequentially analyzed. Study observed that Community policing initiative in Cyberabad is unsuccessful because the management has largely treated it as functional aspect. Contrarily, management in Trichy has made structural and philosophical adjustments before institutionalizing the innovation which consequently received success. Study found that the success of diffusion of innovation in policing is largely determined by leadership style and structure. Study established that a clear understanding and training of personnel on community policing philosophy is pertinent for diffusing the innovation particularly at middle and lower level staff. Finally, the paper argues that implementers of community policing should endeavor to preserve the managerial philosophy of trust and institutionalize accordingly.

Among them integrity has received wide treatment in the literature of personnel administration, and a little focus was given to understand its relationship with morale. Therefore, the present paper concentrates more on the latter. However, no generally acceptable definition of either integrity or morale has emerged or has a conceptual framework been evolved in the context of personnel administration. The paper attempts to provide operational definitions of integrity and morale and a conceptual framework for treating them in the context of police personnel administration. In this paper an attempt has also been made to understand how the organizational policies and leadership style of police management determine officers' morale and its profound impact on police integrity. The study selected Greyhounds (an elite commando force) and Cyberabad police organizations designed with two different styles of management. From the study it is found that, officers of Greyhounds enjoy more smooth and cordial relations with their superiors than officers of Cyberabad Police Commissionerate (A City Civil Police organization). The findings suggest that morale plays an important and crucial role in influencing job attitude, satisfaction and ultimately employee integrity.
