New technologies, including Internet-Of-Things, lead home use medical devices to a new generation of easy to use, smart, portable, and communicable from anywhere. IOT technology enables the home use medical devices to seamlessly detect and connect home patient health status and health activities allowing the patients to remotely connect and share their health data to friends, family, and healthcare staff. Thus, home use medical devices with IOT connectivity play an essential role in assisting home patients to continue their medical care at home and monitor health activities, reducing the risk associated with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the first place. The devices empower the home patients to actively manage their health treatment and activities by themselves, either without or with minimum training experience and support. Although the medical systems in Thailand have been attempting to improve the quality and effectiveness of the treatment of the disease in terms of physical illness, the success of the treatment also depends on the quality of mental health. Metastatic breast cancer patients have found that social support is a key factor that helps them through this difficult time. It is recognized that social support in different dimensions, including emotional support, social network support, informational support, instrumental support and appraisal support, are contributing factors that positively affect the quality of life of patients in general, and it is undeniable that social support in various forms is important in promoting the quality of life of metastatic breast patients. However, previous studies have not been dedicated to investigating their quality of life concerning affective, cognitive, and behavioral outcomes. Therefore, this study aims to develop integrated social support through social networks to improve the quality of life of metastatic breast cancer patients in Thailand.

Factors influencing the success or failure were explored by using the information systems implementation framework, such as user participation, user involvement, management support, effective training, and personal factors. Non-parametric tests from collected questionnaires and the in-depth interviews with top executives who are the key user of the ABSC were employed to test factors influencing the success and failure of an ABSC implementation. The examination of the implementation success in a single organization indicated that user participation and user involvement were related to user attitude and intention to use the ABSC. Manager support was related to users' intention to use the ABSC. Also effective training was related to user attitude...

This dissertation argues that the attributes of partner, relationship, and knowledge contribute to the learning of a local firm in an international alliance. The framework of the study was drawn on the literatures of organizational learning and strategic alliances. Two industries, i.e., electronics industry and vehicle parts industry, were selected because of their importance to the economy of Thailand in terms of export and technology transfer. To collect data for the analysis, a mail survey was conducted. A self-administered questionnaire was sent to 778 local firms in Thailand. The usable response rate was 14.39 percent. The method of principal components analysis was utilized to identify variable that represent the attributes of partner, relationship, an...

Research paper thumbnail of Risk attitudes and game playing experience: The game of hedge accounting tools for foreign currency exchange

The volatility of foreign currency exchange rate has created a great deal of risk to businesses. ... more The volatility of foreign currency exchange rate has created a great deal of risk to businesses. Thus, executives who are responsible for risk management in this area must be knowledgeable with the appropriate use of tools and methods to deal with this type of risks. Nevertheless, the accounting transactions to record these hedging activities can be complicated. Also, the selection of instruments to be used in managing the risks and impacts from exchange rate volatility is quite complex. The overall research plan has two study objectives. The first objective is to develop a mobile game as the data collection instrument for this research. The game is called "Hedge Accounting Game for Foreign Currency Exchange, HAGFCE." HAGFCE is designed to run on the tablet with either IOS or Android platform. The scope of hedge accounting content is limited to two topics, Fair Value Hedge and Cash Flow Hedge. The foreign currency exchange hedge transactions are limited to account receivables and agreement to sell. The second objective is to collect data from game users in terms of their learning experience. Personal risk attitude of each individual game user will also be collected. The relationship between the level of individual's personality risk and his or her choice making experience in the HAGFCE will be examined. Data will be collected and compared the difference between before and after an individual plays the game. A 2X2 group of semi-experimental design will be conducted with a total of 120 game users. The groups are first classified according to their personal risk attitudes (risk avoidance and risk-aversion) and then by the sequence of topics being introduced while playing the HAGFCE game (Fair Value Hedge before Cash Flow Hedge or Cash Flow Hedge before Fair Value Hedge). The present manuscript outlines the research design of the computer-experiment using the HAGFCE. The paper also provides a baseline result used to classify personal risk attitudes. This is done by systematically verifying whether the Passive Risk Taking Scale (PRT) developed by Ruty Keinan & Yoella Bereby-Meyer in 2012 can be used in Thai environment. The original 25 self-administered statements were evaluated by 117 graduate students from three universities. Exploratory Factor Analysis was used to determine the applicability of various aspects of the original scale. Further analysis was done to reduce the original 25 statements to 13 manageable statements that will, in turn, be used to assess the individual's risk attitude of game players in the semi-experimental research.

The research focuses on using the tracked data to assess sedentary behaviors, toss-and-turns, and sleep duration. Fifty seniors participated in the study for 14 days to obtain anecdotal evidence: half of them wore Sookjai, a motion-tracking device; the other half recorded their activities manually via a diary. The results show that they spent most of their time in the sit/stand posture; they tossed and turned during naps and sleep. Both groups showed a similar pattern of activities: the higher level of sedentary behavior is related to a longer sleep duration. Sedentary behavior and naps increased the number of toss-and-turns at night; toss-and-turns did not affect sleep duration. These independent living adults rated themselves healthy regardless of the extent of their sedentary behaviors or tossing and turning. Only a little over fifty percent of the total 478 companies included graphic representations of their business operations and performance in the form of two or three dimensional spreadsheet based graphs in their annual reports, investor relations documents, websites and so on. For novice users, these visual representations are unlikely to give the big picture of what is the company’s financial position and performance. Neither will they tell where the company stands in its own operating environment. The existing graphics and visuals, in very rare cases, can provide a sense of the company’s future outlook. For boundary users such as audit committees whose duty is to promote good governance through transparency and disclosure, preliminary interview results show that there is some doubt as to whether the inclusion of big-picture visuals can really be of use to minority shareholders. These boundary users expect to see more insightful visuals beyond those produced by traditional spreadsheets which will enable them to learn to cope with the on-going turbulence in today’s business environment more quickly. However, the debate is still going on as to where to draw the line between internal or external reporting visuals.

Tables, graph and charts are often used to represent vast amount of complex numerical data and spreadsheet visuals become a de facto standard in business. This study suggests the use of individual's cognitive differences on business report visualization instead of providing "one visual fits all type of reports." It is argued that reports with data augmented by appropriate visuals will affect the efficiency and effectiveness of an individual's learning outcomes and subsequently his or her decision making processes. It is argued here that report visualization can augment the usefulness of contents and enhance many desirable features of reports as specified in those proposed models.

Data were collected in three different points in time from a large State-owned Enterprise (SOE) in Thailand. The first time was at the design stage, shortly after the project kick-off. Second was during project realization with individual module testing as well as integration testing and end-user trainings or just before the system deployment stage. The third and last phase of data was collected a year after the project went live. The implementation of ERP project was mandated, however, the undeniably bureaucratic and lifetime employment nature of this SOE had made this setting quite unique. The results showed user attitudes followed a typical three-stage model of change but user expectation did not. The relationship between intention to use ERP, user attitudes and user expectation differed in different phases of ERP implementation. User attitudes contributed to intention to use in all three phases of implementation. User expectation, on the other hand, contributed to the intention to use ERP only in the transition phase of implementation. Perceived ease of use and Perceived usefulness, as the antecedents of user attitudes, played a significant role on attitudes during the transitional and usage phases. Thus, TAM model appears to be relatively robust once users actually have hands-on experience with the new system. Management support was the key factor during the beginning and the transition phases of implementing a mandated ERP. Project risks seem to have a small role in the beginning but do not have a significant relationship with user expectation in later implementation stages.
