Our Roots

We believe that God is love and power and truth and light; that perfect justice rules the world; that all his sons shall one day reach his feet, however far they stray. We hold the fatherhood of God, the brotherhood of man; we know that we do serve him best when best we serve our brother man. So shall his blessing rest on us and peace for evermore.

The Church recognizes and incorporates the original Nicene Creed as our statement of belief. To the degree that the Nicene Creed explains our shared beliefs, the Act of Faith illuminates our humanity in the context of a shared existence.

We are united in a common liturgy rather than in adherence to strict creeds and doctrines. Theologies, doctrines and creeds are attempts to describe Truth but can never be, in and of themselves, Truth Itself.

Our Tradition

Unique to The Liberal Catholic Church is its aim of combining a traditional Catholic form of worship—with its stately ritual, its deep mysticism, and its abiding witness to the reality of sacramental grace—with its allowance for intellectual liberty and respect for individual conscience.

Individual Freedom

The Church holds that individuals are free beings, and with a serious and fervent intent, we are capable of coming into a personal realization of the truth about God and human existence. It is far more spiritually transformative and enlivening than a simple mental ascent.

A hallmark characteristic of The Liberal Catholic Church is support for each individual’s exploration of Truth rather than an imposition of dogmas one is expected to accept, adhere to, and believe in. We recognize that Truth is ultimately a process of self-discovery and self-realization.
