In the web log, short as a blog, the bloggers share their views in the form of creating and commenting on blog posts. The bloggers who influence other users in a blogging community are known as the influential bloggers. Identification of such influential bloggers has vast applications in advertising, online marketing and e-commerce. This paper investigates the problem of identifying influential bloggers and presents a model which consists of two modules: Activity and Recognition. The activity module takes into account a blogger's activity and recognition module measures a blogger's influence in his/her social community. The integration of activity and recognition modules identifies the active as well as influential bloggers. The proposed model, MIBSA (Model to find Influential Bloggers using Sentiment Analysis), takes into account the existing and novel features of senti...

Retail companies recognize the need to analyze and predict their sales and customer behavior agai... more Retail companies recognize the need to analyze and predict their sales and customer behavior against their products and product categories. Our study aims to help retail companies create personalized deals and promotions for their customers, even during the COVID-19 pandemic, through a big data framework that allows them to handle massive sales volumes with more efficient models. In this paper, we used Black Friday sales data taken from a dataset on the Kaggle website, which contains nearly 550,000 observations analyzed with 10 features: qualitative and quantitative. The class label is purchases and sales (in U.S. dollars). Because the predictor label is continuous, regression models are suited in this case. Using the Apache Spark big data framework, which uses the MLlib machine learning library, we trained two machine learning models: linear regression and random forest. These machine learning algorithms were used to predict future pricing and sales. We first implemented a linear regression model and a random forest model without using the Spark framework and achieved accuracies of 68% and 74%, respectively. Then, we trained these models on the Spark machine learning big data framework where we achieved an accuracy of 72% for the linear regression model and 81% for the random forest model.

The social web is an integral part of our daily life. Due to the resulting exponential growth of the social web, a number of research domains have emerged, involving research activities that aim to study human nature, to analyse human sentiments and emotions, and to find the impact of various users in the social networks. Recently, the research focus has shifted to identifying a user's influence on other users in a social network. In the recent literature, we find a number of models proposed to find the most influential users in the blogging community. In this paper, we review the models to find these influential bloggers. The existing models are classified into feature-based and network-based categories. The feature-based models consider the salient factors to measure bloggers' influence. The network models, on the other hand, consider the graph-based social network structure of the bloggers to identify those who have the most impact on fellow members. This survey introduces each model with its features, novel aspects, and the datasets used. In addition to the discussion about the model, a comparative analysis of the datasets is presented. We conclude by discussing applications of the relevant literature, exploring open research issues and challenges, and sharing possible future directions in this active area of research.
