cinssu - Profile (original) (raw)
This is a community for anyone interested in the goings-on of the Cinema Studies Student Union. For those who don't know who we are or what we do, this is the place to get your information.
CINSSU is in charge of something called Free Friday Films, which happens most Fridays at 7pm at Innis College (2 Sussex Avenue) on the St. George campus of U of T. Sometimes we have themes for monthes, sometimes we have double and even triple bills, and it's all free, all you need to do is show up!
We're also show Sneak Previews once in a while; we get a film from a distributor that is not yet out in theatres and show it for free, again at Innis College. We also sometimes have co-productions with professors, organizations and distributors.
Along with showing great movies and providing free entertainment, we also have a serious side. We are the liason between students and professors. If there is any conflict or concerns, with classes or professors/T.A.s, we try to help and create a better atmostphere for everyone. We know how intimidating it can be to talk to professors yourself; we're here to help!
FAQ
Where is the CINSSU office?
The office is joined right now with the ENSU office iin room 107 in Innis College (2 Sussex Avenue, on St. George by Robarts) by the Innis Cafe. Just enter the cafe, and walk left until you hit a wall.. or before you hit it, that would be better. :D Then turn left and you're there!
What are the office hours?
CINSSU office hours are Monday to Friday from 4pm-5pm. We will soon have an address up for you to contact for times in between. Our office number is 416-978-7434.
What format do you use for the films we watch?
Most people come in thinking that we just pick up a VHS and show you that, but that is not the case. Most of the time it's either 16 or 35mm, and very rarely do we use anything else. DVD, LD, and Beta are only options as a VERY last resort.
What kinds of movies do you show?
Normally we try to stay away from really commercial movies, so that we can show you other new and different kinds of films, but they're always fun and great for cinephiles, and even the average movie-goer.
Do you have to be an Innis student to be allowed to Free Friday Films?
Absolutely not, anyone can go, even people who don't go to U of T, or school for that matter!
What is Camera Stylo?
Camera Stylo is a booklet put out every year featuring some of the best student essays from Cinema Studies! We're always taking submissions!
When do you have meetings?
Every Friday at 5pm by our office (location stated above). Please feel free to drop by at any time to see what's up and ask any questions, vocalize concerns, submit for Camera Stylo, even better, JOIN!
How can I help?
We have many jobs for people to do, such as Sneak Peak organization, Camera Stylo, Majestic Nights, etc. We can also always use volunteers for Free Friday Films and sneaks! We meet every Friday at 5pm by our office (location stated above).
