CIRA Terminal Roadway Rehabilitation - Central Illinois Regional Airport (original) (raw)

Central Illinois Regional Airport Terminal Roadway Rehabilitation

Beginning Monday, August 19, 2024

[Bloomington, IL] – The terminal roadway system directly in front of the Central Illinois Regional Airport (CIRA) will be under construction starting Monday, August 19. The rehabilitation of the roadway will have four phases and is expected to last approximately twelve weeks.

Those travelling to and from CIRA during this time should take extra precautions as there will be continually changing traffic patterns on the roads entering and exiting the airport as the work progresses. Traffic control devices and flaggers will be in place to help guide traffic on the terminal roadways. Allow for extra time when planning to arrive/depart the airport.

While the terminal roadway will remain open, there will be only partial access to the front curb for passenger pick up and drop off which could increase traffic in front of the terminal. CIRA recommends using the short-term parking lot for passenger pick-up and drop-off with limited access availability to the regular pick-up/drop-off area.

The terminal roadway rehabilitation project is one of three construction projects that are in progress at CIRA. For fiscal year 2025, the Bloomington-Normal Airport Authority (BNAA) has programmed more than 28.7milliondollarsinnewcapitalinvestment,including28.7 million dollars in new capital investment, including 28.7milliondollarsinnewcapitalinvestment,including24 million for these construction projects. All three projects were awarded to local contractors who, in turn, employ more than seventy-five local full-time employees to do the construction work.
