TY - JOUR AU - Asheghi, M. Sajad PY - 2022 DA - 2022/03/01 TI - Phenotypic Diversity of Crataegus orientalis subsp. szovitsii (Pojark.) K.I.Chr. Population in Markazi Province, Iran JO - Erwerbs-Obstbau SP - 69 EP - 74 VL - 64 IS - 1 AB - Hawthorn is used for horticultural purposes and landscaping. The species of this genus have pomological benefits owing to their dwarf rootstocks. Several morphological and biochemical traits in the population of the endemic hawthorn at Shahbaz mountain were evaluated to show relationships between the quantitative and qualitative traits. Analysis of variance (ANOVA), coefficients of variation, and correlations among the variables were accounted. Principal components analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis were measured to investigate relations between the accessions and variables. Bivariate correlation analysis indicates—leaf size, fruit size, leaf weight, fruit weight, and flower quantity—correlate with each other distinctly. This study also shows that fruit taste, total soluble solids (TSS), titratable acidity and pH have positive correlations. Also, other studies on hawthorn revealed minimum and maximum of TSS within a wider range than this study. PCA indicates that eight components elucidated 96.019% of the total variation. Results revealed that there is no impressive phenotypic variation among studied hawthorn trees at Shahbaz mountain. This low variability may be mainly due to the separation between this population and other Crataegus orientalis subsp. szovitsii (Pojark.) K.I.Chr. populations of Iran. Also, it shows that this population could not singly be supposed to have potential for plant breeding.
