A Criminal Minds Resource (original) (raw)

17 January 2011 @ 07:43 pm

I'm not really sure how to do this best. Maybe I should start off with an apology? Because my heart breaks a little bit at having to do this.

As sodoesrachael pointed out in the challenge post for this month, I've been going through some...difficult times lately, that have, unfortunately only gotten worse. RL has sort of been one shitstorm after another lately and I have come to the decision that the best thing for me right now is to leave LJ and fandom so that I can begin to sort things out.

I'm not gonna get into too many details, but between family tragedy, crazy accident prone sisters, the economy being what it is, and (the worst) a general lack of interest in fandom at all, this really is the best decision for me.

Despite the difficulties and spotty participation at best (with the exception of techbychance - you've been kind of amazing, despite our rocky start) I do appreciate everyone who has joined and participated over the course of the last several months. You all will never know how much I truly appreciate it (and will continue to do so).

What this means: I've been in discussion with ar_poe and sodoesrachael and the decision was made to go on ahead and shut this community down. This month's challenge will be our last (and today will likely be my last day on LJ). I'm gonna put the community into sodoesrachael's hands after this so any questions can be posed to her- she will also finish up with this months challenge and get the final compilation post up. We will leave everything up of course so that the work that we have done remains accessible. If even one person can go "hey, there's this great rec list over at cm_ficfinders", then we've done our job...

...Of course, on the off chance that someone out there is interest in giving this baby a go and wants to try to continue running things, by all means, you're welcome to it. The groundwork is certainly here for anyone willing to try. Again, just let sodoesrachael know (or leave a comment here), and she'll give you the appropriate access and rundown for how things work.

Again, thank you guys for being so wonderful and I hope fandom, CM and the new year continue to be good to you.

EDIT:

this is, of course, abalonedreams15. And my failed attempt to lock down my journal and dissasociate myself with...well, myself without losing everything.

Fail. *sigh* simply a continuation of my bad year I suppose.

Good bye for now my friends (I mean it this time).

Hey all! Sorry this is a bit late. Welcome to the first challenge of 2011!! Woo! Hope everyone had happy holidays, and now let's get cracking!

Sorry if the graphic doesn't look as spiffy as it could. My computer currently hates me. :( Anywho, if any of you are like me, you're currently experiencing the winter blues. It's cold, it's dreary, it's cold, and it's just not fun, so how do we cure it? With FLUFF! So, the challenge for January: Help everyone overcome the winter (or just January) blues by rec'ing as many fluff fics as you can! Any pairing, any genre, any character(s); basically anything fluffy goes. Again, please remember to use appropriate warnings for content. (For anyone not fluent in internetz speak, fluff = happy, non-angsty.)

RULES AND REGULATIONS AND THINGS OF RELEVANCE:

Leave your recs as a comment in this post. Please give as much information as possible so that we can make a detailed list of all the recs at the end of the month. Refer to

this post to remind yourself of the challenge rules. * Please note that the rules for this community have been updated. Please visit the profile page to bring yourself up to speed.* The mods reserve the right to delete off topic comments.

Please leave your recs by January 30th in order to be eligible to win a great prize!

**The banner is linked back to this post, so feel free to copy/paste it and share it! **

***Also, remember, if you have any ideas for future themes, leave them here***

Side note: This challenge is a bit late because my good friend and fellow mod, abalonedreams15, is currently going through something very trying. Last I heard everyone is fine now, but still, what happened is scary. So please, just keep her in your thoughts. She's awesome and does 90% of the work to keep this community going. She totally rocks! ;) Because of this, though, send any questions/concerns/comments my way for a while, just until she's back on her feet, so to speak.

P.S. Nothing happened to her directly, but to someone very close. I don't know how much she'd want me to share, but like I said, just keep her in your thoughts and send happy feelings her way. :) Thanks!

03 December 2010 @ 12:19 am

So this month we're gonna do things a bit differently...

Because of the holidays and the nature of this time of year (busy busy busy) December's (unofficial) theme is going to be Works in Progress (WIP):

Typically we discourage the posting of WIP fics for our challenges here for a number of reasons. This does not, however, mean that there are not some absolutely fabulous WIPs out there that deserve recognition. So here's your chance to give out a shout out to those fics that normally miss the cut.

If you know of any WIPs, including ones that you were unable to rec previously, please post them in a comment here (noting the theme for the appropriate month if applicable). This post will also be linked to all future challenges as a sort of dumping ground for WIPs that normally could not be recced.

*please note that these fics will NOT be compiled, nor will they be posted to our delicious (

If I ever find the time to update it

). We will also not be giving out a prize this month, although please keep an eye out for some exciting new plans we have in the works for the first of the new year!

Merry Christmas (or happy Hanukkah!) everybody.

Remember for the purposes of this challenge, "Short Fic" should be difined as any story (type) under apprx 5,000 words, or that would not take an average reader much more than 30 minutes to read

The deadline is the 30th to win this months incentive prize.

So with November, and therefore the beginning of the holiday season, approaching...well, I don't know about you, but my ability to sit down and read epic length fiction severely decreases. So with that in mind, Please rec your favorite Short Fic, including flash fiction, drabbles, comment fic etc...you know, those wonderful little jewels that tide you over when you don't have the time for the longer stuff...? _(For the purposes of this challenge, "Short Fic" should be difined as any story (type) under apprx 5,000 words, or that would not take an average reader much more than 30 minutes to read)_Leave your recs as a comment in this post. Hello my lovely fellow Criminal Minds friends. Hope you all are enjoying the current season? Unfortunately, since we don't get to see the lovely JJ on screen anymore, here is October's rec list for JJ centric stories, so you can still get your fix (poor substitute though it may be).

On a brighter note, I just want to thank all of you who participated this month. We're doing better and I hope to see you all around in the future...and maybe a few more brave souls?

Remember you can also find all of these stories listed in our

memories, as well as archived in our Delicious account (although unfortunately I'm a bit behind in updating it. Sorry.)

Also, congratulations go to ficdirectory as this months winner! Look out for an e-mail.

As most of you hopefully already know, tomorrow is AJ Cook's last episode of Criminal Minds. No more JJ. :'( So to honor her time on the show, October's theme is JJ. Post recs for any and all of your favorite JJ-centric fics. Fics where JJ has a significant role. We're not looking for fics where she's mentioned once: fics about JJ or about the team and feature JJ at some point. Gen, femslash, het: everything is welcome. And again, please use warnings accordingly for NC-17 fics, thanx.

Leave your recs as a comment in this post. Please give as much information as possible so that I can make a detailed list of all the recs at the end of the month. Refer to this post to remind yourself of the challenge rules. The mods reserve the right to delete off topic comments.

And guys:

We love you all for joining us, but that should mean lots and lots of awesome recs! If everyone who watches us rec'ed at least one story, we'd have a very nice list at the end of the month. Just putting that out there! ;)

~ Here is a list of all the of the recommendations we received for June's Team_Fic! challenge. Feel free to continue to post more recs in the comment sections on this post (not on the challenge post). Also please note that I did not receive permission from any of these authors to post their works. If you are the author of any of these stories, let me know if you would like any information altered or removed.

~You can also find all of these stories listed in our memories, as well as archived in our shiny new Delicious account.

~ A quick (but heartfelt) thank you to techbychance who supplied the majority of these recs. I KNOW we can do better than two people participating.

~ Finally, congratulations to teatotaller! the winner for this month's prize (keep an eye out for a PM so we can discuss your options)

( Team_FicCollapse )

(I want to apologize for the amount of mod posts recently...I'm still working things out. Feel free to make suggestions at any time)

OK! This is your monthly reminder post (to be posted half way through each month). Please make sure you post all new recs

HERE

(or simply follow the banner).

I would also like to remind you to rec stories that YOU know and like. No need to think too hard about it. Also, all stories will be categorized, so don't be afraid of reccing something explicitly slash or het.

On another note I would like to let you know my decision on

incentives

. Enough people wanted them, or indicated that they would be more likeley to participate if they were offered, that it seems like a good idea. So every month a winner will be chosen "door prize" style. That is, everyone who recs a story will have their name thrown into a (metaphorical) hat and the winner will be announced when I post the final, compiled list of recs.

havocs_roman (my friend over in the True Blood fandom) will do the drawing. She is in no way affiliated with this comm or this fandom for fairness sake. If anyone has any problems with this, or feels there would be a conflict of interests, let me know.

You will only be eligable to win if you post your rec by: June

28th

The winner will have the option of choosing any one of the following prizes:
~a LJ gift for your profile
~a banner made to your specifications
~an icon/icon set made to your specifications
~a feature of your personal journal, or comm of your choice, on the sidebar for a month
(in the future, we hope to be able to offer a short fic as a possible prize as well- any willing authors please let me know).

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who participated in my poll the other day. The results were...interesting. I was, however, pleased to note the diversity of interest as far as sexuality. There was a pretty good/equal showing of slash, gen and het people.

So as of NOW, I will continue with the "challenge", at least for another month or two. I'm really trying to be optimistic. Further, I will offer an incentive, at least for this challenge. I'm not entirely comfortable with the idea, but I'm gonna see how it goes. If you have any

suggestions

for the best way to go about "winning", I would greatly appreciate it. I can't really think of much other than to offer the image prize to the person who reccs the most stories. What think you?

On another note, I figured it would be good idea to get to know you guys! I got some really excellent comments on the Poll post, and I'm intrigued to see who's poking around. The more I know you guys, the more I can meet your needs/interests and really make things personalized.

Anyway, I promise I won't bug anyone who does not want to participate in the challenge, I just want to get to know YOU. So-
tell me:

Your name:
Your age (or age range):
Your favorite pairing/character:
slash, gen or het:
your favorite ep, season and/or unsub:
an interesting fact about you or your love of CM:

thanks sodoesrachael for the banner. Feel free to pass it around on your own journal!

So for our very first monthly thematic challenge:

Recommend a story that focuses on the Criminal Minds characters as they interact as a team. The team, and how they relate to each other and work together, must be the focus of each story to some degree.

All other information in terms of

pairing

,

rating

and

genre

is acceptable. Please post your responses in the comments here.

Refer to This post to remind yourself of the Challenege Rules. I reserve the right to delete off topic comments.
