_1:32 am_[thewordotheday] | louche \LOOSH\, adjective: (cross posted) **Of questionable taste or morality; disreputable or indecent; dubious; shady.**Earlier in the evening, I ran into Jarrod from my Spanish class; we were chatting for awhile and ended up discussing the merits of Jesus v. homosexuality (are the two really mutually exclusive?). Yeah. Don't ask me how we got to that thought line. But we ultimately agreed to send each other information arguing our side, as long as the material is analytical in nature. Jarrod is an extremely nice guy, so I think he'll respond positively to well articulated points of view that are in allignment with his beliefs (he's pretty Christian; he pulled a dictionary sized Bible out of his bookbag mid-convo).So I'm asking anyone who has information on the homosexuality v. religion debate that is both thoughtful and passive (I don't think anything overly didactic is going to sway him; he seems really receptive right now, I wouldn't want to damage that with, 'you're a bastard!' type readings). I want to deconstruct his view of this 'louche behavior;' so if you have anything, anything of substance please forward it to me at ksjogren A T gmail D O T com.He submitted these lines to me, so if anything tackles these specifically, that'd be awesome.Thanks,-Karl_1st Corinthians Chapter 6 Verses 9-11"Don't fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, who are idol worshipers, adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexuals, thieves, greedy people, drunkards, abusers, and swindlers, none of these will share in the Kingdom of God. There was a time when some of you were just like that, but now your sins have been washed away and you have been set apart for God. You have been made right with God because of what the Lord Jesus Christ and the Spirit of our God have done for you."Romans Chapter 1 Verses 27,32"And the men, instead of having normal sexual relationships with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men and, as a result, suffered within themselves the penalty they so richly deserved.""They are fully aware of God's death penalty for those who do these things, yet they go right ahead and do them anyway. And, worse yet, they encourage others to do them too."Romans Chapter 2 Verse 16"The day will surely come when God, by Jesus Christ, will judge everyone's secret life."Romans Chapter 3 Verse 22"We are made right in God's sight when we trust in Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved in this same way, no matter who we are or what we have done."_ (Comment on this) |

_2:40 pm_[thewordotheday] | Boycott http://www.boycottforequality.orgThis is a formidable undertaking, but it has the potential to be a very significant event. Money is a powerful medium in this country, and when a significant amount is removed from the American economy—even for one day—people, and in particular people who hold power in this nation, will take notice. On Friday, October 8, 2004 the National Boycott for GLBT Equality will be occurring. It calls for a nation-wide boycott in the traditions of Gandhi & Dr. Martin Luther King. They're asking all GLBT Americans and allies to "drop out" of the U.S. economy for one day to demonstrate that GLBT people, and our supporters, are vital and important members of our communities with significant economic presence. This is a powerful way to make our presence known in this country. The boycott offers an opportunity for a silent protest that can be measured in dollars. The economic buying power of the GLBT Community alone is estimated @ $485 billion (Witek-Combs/Harris Interactive), an astounding figure which doesn't even include allies. The goal is to show the American people that GLBTA people are important members of every community. Because so many of us are in the closet, the way to show our impact is to drop out of the economy. It will tangibly demonstrate the vital contributions LGBTA people make every day. We are citizens and we deserve fair and equal treatment like every other members of society. The three keys to the boycott are: 1. Stay home - take the day off from work and school. (rest)2. Refrain from spending ANY money. (save)3. No cell phone use. (silence)Make your voice heard - tell your friends and family about the boycott and plan on participating on October 8, 2004. The boycott is supported by celebrities like Margaret Cho & organizations like the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force. (Comment on this) |
