There is credible evidence that a person's beliefs about the aging process are linked to and influence a variety of health outcomes.
PURPOSE:
This study determined whether aging expectations predict health-related quality of life. Furthermore, the study determined whether engagement in healthy lifestyles mediates the relationship between these variables.
METHODS:
This descriptive-correlational study enlisted a total of 95 respondents aged 60 to 85 years old in a large metropolitan area. Data were analyzed using linear regression and mediation analysis.
RESULTS:
Aging expectations and engagement in healthy lifestyles are a significant predictor of health-related quality of life (p< 0.05). Moreover, engagement in healthy lifestyles is found to be a significant mediator between the variables.
CONCLUSION:
Older adults who have positive aging expectations and engage in health promotion activities are more likely to report better health. Therefore, programs that promote a positive aging expectation and engagement in health-promoting activities should be implemented.

Using Narrative Inquiry, specifically Labov and Waletzky's six-part narrative analysis for the construction (The Abstract, Orientation, Complicating Action, Evaluation, Resolution, and Coda), seven (7) informants were interviewed about their stories and experiences throughout the entirety of their academic pursuit with ALS. Five (5) main plots emerged from the interviews, namely: (a) "The Wanderer's Quandary"; (b) "The Fork at the End of the Road"; (c) "The Path Less Traveled"; (d) "The Unceasing River"; and (e) "The Open Field." Each main plot has corresponding subplots for each informant. The findings revealed that the experience of being an ALS student is not easy...

This research investigated the determinants of counterproductive work behavior (CWB) such as work-related proactive coping, autonomy, interpersonal conflict, organizational constraints of hospital nurses in a tertiary hospital in large metropolitan city in the Philippines. A descriptive correlational design was utilized in the study. Nurses from the different clinical areas of the hospital were chosen as respondents for this study. Proactive coping received the strongest weight in the model followed by autonomy and organizational constraints; interpersonal conflicts received the lowest of the four weights. Based on the results of the study, the researcher can conclude that work-related proactive coping, autonomy, interpersonal conflicts, and organizational constraints are determinants of counterproductive work behaviors of hospital nurses. Tobacco prevention and control efforts should not be a one-size-fits-all approach. One of the most recent and highly marketed way of cutting down smoking is the use of E-cigarettes. But its use may also have potential harmful effects which would be similar to cigarette smoking. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the factors predicting electronic cigarette use among adults in a large metropolitan area in the Philippines. Methods:The study used a descriptive-correlational multivariate research design. Adults who are at least 18 years of age, who are electronic cigarettes users, dual users (electronic cigarette and cigarette users), and non-smokers were chosen for this study. The researchers utilized a researcher- made questionnaire based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) in gathering the data. The evolved theory suggests that a person's expectation regarding aging would influence health behaviors and subsequently a person's overall well-being. The theory further suggests that individual experiences during one's lifetime influence how these personal aging expectations are constructed. This has major implications for health promotion programs and public health policies involving older adult populations.

Furthermore, it aimed to determine whether self-efficacy mediates the relationship between aging expectations and engagement in healthy lifestyles. This study enlisted 95 respondents who were 60 years old and older in a large metropolitan area in the Philippines. A four-part instrument package was utilized to measure the respondent's (1) demographic profile, (2) aging expectations using the Expectations Regarding Aging (ERA-12) Survey, (3) engagement in healthy lifestyles using Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP-II), and (4) self-efficacy using the Self-efficacy for Self-direction in Health Scale. Data were analyzed using linear regression and mediation analysis. Results show that aging expectations and self-efficacy predicted engagement in healthy lifestyles. Moreover, self-efficacy was found to be a significant mediator between the variables. Programs that promote a positive aging expectation and high self-efficacy should be pursued by the government and non-government organizations.

A Constructivist Grounded theory was used in knowing and understanding the process undergone by these persons. A total number of ten persons who have gone through facial burn disfigurement were interviewed. Data analysis of data gathered emerged a theory, the Self-Acceptance through a Change of Perspective with the first category "Adjusting to the New Me" which explains how they reacted initially towards their new facial appearance. The second category "Adjusting to How Society Perceives Me" explains onto how the informants adjusted to the comments of the society and the general norms of society in their new appearance. The last category "Moving Forward" entails the process wherein our informants continue to become optimistic of the change of their appearance. The researchers have found out that the informants had to go through a process of acceptance by a change of perspective. Regardless of the fact whether or not they were self-conscious before, they all had an unpleasant reaction upon initially seeing their face. They looked at their situation in a different angle and saw it as a God's plan which resulted to accept their facial appearances.

Being in a different form of education, different from what society usually pursues, comes stigma. Strong will and perseverance had lead these people to go through with ALS. It became their bridge of hope to a second chance towards their pursuit through education.

A phenomenological method was utilized, using Paul Ricoeur’s theory of Interpretation as a guide for thematic analysis. The interview was unstructured aided with an audio recorder for the transcriptions of the data. Gathering of informants was through snowball and maximum variation sampling. A total of 6 informants (5 females, 1 male) have participated in the study. Four (4) major themes emerged from the interpretation of the informants’ experiences namely; “The Choices We Make”, “A Choice of Words”, “A Couple Can Build a House but a Child Can Create a Home” and “It Could Have Been”. The findings have significant implications to inform practice of health care professionals.

The findings revealed that the experience of being an ALS student is not easy. Being in a different form of education, different from what society usually pursues, comes stigma. Strong will and perseverance had lead these people to go through with ALS. It became their bridge of hope to a second chance towards their pursuit through education.
