According to ISO 55000, the asset life is the period from "asset creation to asset end-of-life," and the life cycle corresponds to "the stages involved in the management of an asset". Woodward [1] says that "the life cycle cost of an item is the sum of all funds expended in support of the item from its conception and fabrication through its operation to the end of its useful life". According to Goh and Sun [2], "the history of the application of Life Cycle Costing (LCC) began in the UK in the late 1950's." As Lindholm & Suomala [3] say, "Life Cycle Costing (LCC) is a way of thinking where attention is paid to the total costs that occur during a product's entire life cycle". The authors say that "in addition to the estimation of future costs, an essential feature of LCC is cost monitoring during a product's life cycle," and "the sum of life cycle costs of many products often substantially exceeds the initial purchase price". Estevan and Schaefer [4] argue, "Life cycle costing is a powerful technique that supports the analytical processes by which managers can make the most cost-effective decisions on options presented to them at differing life cycle stages and at different levels of the life cycle cost estimate". It must be emphasized that United States Department of Energy (USDE) looks at equipment as a final product to be consumed, like any other product. Schuh et al. [5] relate the life cycle to products, saying that "relevant information which can be used to assess the subsequent maintenance costs are requirements for product life cycle, e.g. service costs according to Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) as well as serviceability and maintainability of the product." According to Kianian et al. [6], "Life Cycle Costing (LCC) was initially used by US

The present paper describes a case study where a wood chip pump system was analyzed, and a predictive model was proposed. An Ishikawa diagram and FMECA are used to identify possible causes for system failure. The Chip Wood has several sensors installed to monitor the working conditions and system state. The authors propose a variation of exponential smoothing technique for short time forecasting and an artificial neural network for long time forecasting. The algorithms were integrated into a dashboard for online condition monitoring, where the users are alerted when a variable is determined or predicted to get out of the expected range. Experimental results show prediction errors in general less than 10 %. The proposed technique may be of help in monitoring and maintenance of the asset, aiming at greater availability

In the ambit of the referred contract, the paper focus on the Vital Signs Monitors and the defibrillators. It also refers the audit methodology used on operating theatres and recovery rooms, as well as the work developed about a maintenance management platform through the software Microsoft Access program. Throughout the paper some equipment is referred, including test equipment, target of the maintenance interventions and to the audit safety process.

This review includes the explanation of Open O&M (Open Operations & Maintenance) that creates bridges between MIMOSA (Machinery Information Management Open Systems Alliance), the OPC Foundation (Open Protocol Communication), and the ISA SP95 (Instrumentation Systems and Automation Society's, SP95 Committee), in order to manage the problem under discussion. The understanding of the actual state-of-the-art reveals needs for further advancements of technologies and information standards for the exchange of Open O&M data and linked context. Furthermore, in order to be an active player in the industry, it is strategic to simplify the management and integration of enterprise information resources in a cooperating mode.ISBN för värdpublikation: 978-91-7790-475-5</p

The present work proposes a model of a task assistant based on a deep learning neural network. A YOLOv5 network is used for recognizing some of the constituent parts of an automobile. A dataset of car engine images was created and eight car parts were marked in the images. Then, the neural network was trained to detect each part. The results show that YOLOv5s is able to successfully detect the parts in real time video streams, with high accuracy, thus being useful as an aid to train professionals learning to deal with new equipment using augmented reality. The architecture of an object recognition system using augmented reality glasses is also designed.

This increase in longevity has led to the emergence of various diseases related to age and the increased prevalence of chronic pathologies. The vast majority of this elderly population, with ages between 60 and 90 years, has multiple medications. The effects of polypharmacy in older adults have high risks of drug interactions and adverse reactions and decrease the adherence to medication. For example, in the case of Diabetes Mellitus, some studies suggest that 50% of patients do not adhere to medication regimens and that only one third of them have adequate adhesion to therapy. However, non-adherence to therapy is a significant problem for patients, as it decreases the effectiveness of treatment and increases the risk of developing complications, also increasing the human, social and economic cost of disease. This paper presents a new device, called ePillbox, which is the result of the work of a multidisciplinary team, pharmacy competences, electronic, automation and mechanical engineering competences, and also design project expertise. Additionally it is necessary to refer the many contributions used in the article, to protect intellectual property. The device features an innovative design and technological improvements (that may be patented) in relation to existing devices, for which reason we will only describe the generic, technological and functional aspects of the ePillbox.

The second focus on its observation relevance factors and shows how the results are in entire agreement with the relevance concept introduced by Robertson and Spark-Jones in their well known and proved technique of document retrieval. Finally we describe how the equipment composition information can be used to generalize and adapt case solutions to unknown occurrences. This generalization is based on a taxonomic similarity between functionally autonomous modules (FAM) or components. Some formulae for evaluating this similarity are derived.

In this paper, we analyze the determinants of the economic management of physical assets in the specific case of a public passenger transport company located in one of the main cities of Portugal. Based on the case under analysis, it was possible to conclude that the economic management of physical assets is oriented by relevant indicators, including, for example, expenses associated with acquisition, maintenance, and operation. This paper provides a relevant contribution to monitoring and evaluating the life cycle of equipment, enabling more efficient and effective management of these physical assets for transport companies. We are convinced that the valuable results presented in this paper can open up new research avenues in the area of physical asset management.
