Comfortable Chaos (original) (raw)

A week or two ago, I found a recipe for chocolate cake in 5 minutes, and have been fascinated not only by the idea of chocolate cake in such short time, but by how versatile the recipe is. You can do friggin' ANYTHING with this recipe.

Like...breakfast.

I'm still playing around with the recipe -- I want to see what else I can add to it to really give it a breakfast boost -- but this is what I have right now. (To be perfectly honest, it's essentially the same recipe as the original, but with healthier substitutes)

4 tablespoons whole wheat flour
4 tablespoons honey (don't fill the spoon all the way -- the ratio of sugar to honey isn't an exact 1:1)
2 tablespoons cocoa
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
1 egg
Dash of cinnamon

Mix everything together in a mug and stick it in the microwave on high for 3 minutes. Then eat! Yum! =D

Is it as healthy as a plate of carrots? Probably not. But it's better than a candy bar. X3

Variations I want to try:

--Prune juice instead of honey as the sweetener.
--Soymilk instead of regular milk
--Healthy replacement for the oil
--Fruit and nuts mixed in. First time I made this cake (with granulated sugar and plain flour), I added raspberries and that didn't work too well -- the raspberries were too tart. But apples and walnuts might be good.
--Need to find some sort of "icing" that won't completely ruin its healthy properties. The cake comes out rather dry, so it definitely needs some sort of topping to soften it up. Whipped cream is delicious but not good for breakfast. XD So I need to find something whipped-cream-like but healthy. And quick. What makes this cake so fantastic for breakfast is that it takes 7 minutes and in the end the only dishes you have are a mug, a tablespoon, and a fork. It would suck for the cake to be a breeze and the icing to be a pain.
