Inawentu: "Imitator" Late Cretaceous, South America

DescriptionInawentu UDL.png English: Inawentu is a titanosaurian sauropod from the Late Cretaceous of Argentina. The genus is known from a partial articulated skeleton, including a nearly complete skull and a complete neck, containing twelve vertebrae. This is the fewest neck vertebrae of any known titanosaur, resulting in a proportionately shorter neck than most titanosaurs. The skull of Inawentu features a wide, squared-off snout and jaw that are deflected strongly downward. This is a convergent similarity to the distantly related rebbachisaurids, thus giving it its name.
