I ADORED THE VOICE ACTING. Guy who does Naruto's voice? Woah. Naruto actually sounds like a twelve year old kid. *gasp*
I liked Iruka's voice, though some scenes were a bit iffy. The voice actor needs to insert a bit more emotion. (There was one line where Iruka sounded really, really, really sexy XD )
They kept Iruka-"sensei"! :DDDDDDDD Too cool. (Can you imagine if they had translated that? "Teacher Iruka! Teacher Iruka!" Or, as the manga had first went: "Master Iruka! Master Iruka!"
I was sort of sad that they didn't keep the opening and ending themes (first ending theme! How could they not keep it D:?)
Though, I wonder why they edited the nosebleeds? It made no sense: They had a Naruko that almost left nothing to the imagination, blood, weapons, and yet they edit a nosebleed?
That could have been much, much, much worse, in fact, the dub is about as high quality as North American voice acting has been able to produce. Is it the Japanese version? Of course not, it'll never be the same, but it's one of the dubs I'll watch if it's on.
I think the censoring was pretty funny, and I had some fun with a friend of mine joking about the intonation, but I'm expecting relatively good things from this dub. Again, anyone who says the dub sucks needs to think that it could have been a lot worse.
I honestly am surprised by how much I enjoyed it. At first I was ready to nitpick everything but after a few cringes I realized that the two guys next to me who had never seen the original were really enjoying it. And when I stopped trying to find faults in it it was actually pretty damn good.
I think my friend put it best when he said "Dubbing has come a long even though... I'm going to miss things like Fist of the North Star."
... that's a real old reference that probably dates me.
Lol it is pronounced "geh-neen". The reason most people thing it's "geh-nin" is because of the way people pronounce ninja (nin-juh instead of neen-juh).
wakattebayo~ but he REALLY stepped on the NEEN bit. it's more like GEHneen not gehNEEN :P
Wow, you really thought the dub was great? I thought it sucked....
Naruto- instead of Dattebayo, its "Believe it!"
Sakura- Instead of "Shannaro!" its "Cha!" or "Cha cha cha!"
However, that's only what I think. So, how was your day? :)

If you think that the Naruto dub 'could have been worse', you're not really examining reality, are you?
In the world you live in, if perhaps the holocaust was badly acted, then televised in the most commercially shallow way possible.. but then took out all the sound, all the reality, all the emotion.. and then shoved it down your throat in a conglomarate marketing septic explosion.- Of course expecting kids to watch it because they don't know the difference. - Would it not phase you at all? Wouldn't you find it demeaning, trite, annoying, and ignorant?
Ah I'm too high and tired for social molding. Join me in a rioting chant - "F a buncha dubbing!!!!"
You...liked...the Naruto dub?
They /all/ have such irritating voices. Naruto's I can stand, but Kakashi? SHINO?
I only watch the sub on YouTube and mostly stick with the manga.
I watched the original. (I stopped when the filler started tho). I read the manga (even after current sad events! ;.;)
The dub is good. AS DUBS GO. Think about it. Most of the time the people distributing anime could give a rats ass about how well it comes out. Inuyasha, Bobobo, etc. are dubs that no one cared to do and A+ job on. And then you've got Yugi Oh, Konjiki no Gashbell (Zatchbell), Pokemon and One Piece (;.;) where the distributors have TOTALLY re-arranged it's aural presentation to suit their marketing schemes.
Anime like Full Metal Alchemist, Jungle Wa Itsumo Hare Notchi Guu (Hare+Guu) and Naruto were presented with CARE. Even tho the voices aren't always spot-on (I can't STAND Sakura's!) the fact that they TRIED to do a good job is what's important. It IS listenable. Naruto's voice is CLOSE. Gai's voice is EXCELLENT! There's a lot to love.
They left in important Japanese words. Kunoichi (granted, Tenten pronounced it koo-noych), Nindo, Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, Taijutsu... Most of the dub actors even actually TRY To get the pronunciations right! Even down to Tom the announcer who NAILS pronouncing Naruto correctly.
I know there's a lot of prejudice toward dubs. But again, AS DUBS GO. This one is one of the better dubs I've ever heard.
I had the same opinion when I wrote this post back in September of LAST YEAR when the dub first premiered as I do now. Especially now that Gaara's in the picture... *gratuitous gaara fangirling ensues*
