TOPIC: Garfield Dropped By LA TimesSource: Editor & PublisherCategory: Pop Culture**( TextCollapse )**My comments:I repeat:He said the paper displayed "the kind of cojones missing in too many places" and described "Garfield" as "a strip produced by a committee, devoid of originality, devoid of guts, a strip cynically DESIGNED to be inoffensive and bad, on the theory that public tastes are insipid. [...]"I never was a big fan of the comic, and I am not familiar with the process behind the creation of each Garfield comic. From the little bits I have read over the years, though, I think it is possible that the above quote has a grain of truth to it. Scott Kurtz observes that the author is on the pipe if he thinks this being the end of Garfield, and I agree. I mean.. it's Garfield. theresan is a huge fan of Garfield, so my main motivation for posting this was to see her reaction to the above quote. Not like this place has been overrun with new posts lately. ;-)

TOPIC: Commercialism and Jesus.Source: Winston-Salem JournalCategory: Religion, Weird But True**( ArticleCollapse )**Your Comments on article:(original context of this comment)I don't care about political correctness. However, I disliked the guy's attitude and his hypocracy.Out of one end of his mouth, he was saying that we need to bring the Christ back in Christmas. That's fine. The two ways to approach that goal are to either eliminate the commercialism of the holiday or give the commercialism a seperate holiday. The first is not going to happen because commercialism, suprisingly enough, is currently more powerful than religion. But that's a rant for a different comment. The second is practical, and is partially done. Even though 95% of the people still exchange gifts on the alleged birthday of Christ, a good portion of those people do not attend mass. Even though they call is "Christmas", what they are really celebrating are "the holidays". "The holidays" is the holiday of commercialism and gift giving. Continuing to mislabel this holiday as Christmas will not bring more people into the churches. If anything, this mislabeling will water down the Christmas brand even more. With the motive of putting the Christ back in Christmas, I don't see what this fellow is trying to do by insisting that stores wish people "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays". Stores selling Christmas merchandise are about as far from Christ as you can get, regardless of the jingle they use.At the same time, this message does sound like it would be offensive towards folks celebrating "the holidays" who happen to celebrate "the holidays" (in the commercial sense) through Hanukkah or Quanza. What, stores don't want their business anymore?Furthermore, how would this fellow react if someone submitted an ad saying "Don't buy from stores that say Merry Christmas. Only buy from stores that say Happy Hanukkah"?

TOPIC: Superstar lawyer no longer in the big time. Source: Yahoo! News Category: Law and Justice **( You'reCollapse )**Comments on article: AAAWWW! First he got fired from helping a child molester, now he couldn't stop a murderer from punishment. DAMN! His career is over! Oh well, he could always go on VH1's 'The Surreal life'. However by FAR my favorite part of this whole article is this snip "He said he would be in court Wednesday and was 'bouncing between three different cases, a murder, a fraud and an attempted murder.'" ....bouncing between....like he was an actor doing three films, or a model doing three rich elitists....lol...well we wish the killer all the luck in the underworld!
