Ephemeral Mists is a new musical project by composer Brett Branning (also the composer for The synthetic dream foundation & Abandoned Toys). "Moon Ritual" is the debut cd, out now on Mythical records.
The sound of the project is best described as downtempo ambient new age music mixed with ethnic world musics in the vein of "Karma" era Delerium, Amethystium, and Steve Roach. Its really a very intoxicatingly beautiful creation and I sincerely recommend it to anyone into newage music styles. I'm looking forward to further releases by this project.

Hope it is ok to write such posts in this community.
Thing is, I want to advertise a small service I've started some time ago - it might be very useful for composers if they want to present their music on the internet in a compact customizable way.
The service is called Disc Shelf and allows musicians to upload their music and create virtual compact discs with cover art and a booklet, all colors customizable. The album indeed looks more like a compact disc rather than just a web page with a tracklist.
I am also working on the ability to embed your album to other webpages. For instance, to LJ.

The service is not bloated with unnecessary features and is very easy to use.
ps: registered in this community not only to advertise, will post some of music too! I write mostly ambient music with a lot of theoretical basis behind it.

Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra at Lincoln Center in October!
The Clayton- Hamilton Jazz Orchestra led by Jeff Hamilton, John and Jeff Clayton will be performing at Jazz at Lincoln Center from 10/23/08 through 10/25/08! With a ticket for this show you also have access to a pre-concert lecture provided by trumpeter, Sean Jones on the music of the big band and its significance in jazz.
John and Jeff are currently working on their latest project “Brother to Brother” through ArtistShare. Jeff brainstormed this unique project which is a collection of songs composed and/or performed by some of many “brother” groups in jazz. Hello everyone... i just wanted to write a little bit about Stephane Meer, who i work with and try and encourage you to go and check out his music and see what you think.
Stephane is a french composer who got sick of writing music for adverts and things and so decided to start his own project so he could be totally in charge of it.
his new project is called Helena and the Orchestra of the World of Mist. It is a new generation audio book, but they story, which is illustrated with photos and pictures, is really driven by the music. Stephane describes the music as symphonic and gothic rock, it is really interesting and novel. You can download the music, story etc all for free on the website (www.musicaltales.com)
The story is dedicated to Helene Grimaud,the virtuoso pianist who has set up a wolf sanctuary out side of New York. Stephane has a huge love for animals and this is clear in the story.
So please check it out, he has just launched it and i think it is really interesting and innovative.

New recording Hello!
I finally got a recording of a piece that I had performed by a women's choir this past December. The text is from W.B. Yeats' "The Mother of God"
I've uploaded the mp3 to my webspace here. :-)
It's not a perfect recording (a few tuning issues and other outright wrong notes/counting), but overall, it's okay.

Suggestions/Comments I need some suggestions and feedback on some songs. I have been trying to find a singer for months and it seems that once I show people my music, they don't reply back. So basically I need to know if I am just not that good of a songwriter or is it just that people are flaky! Maybe a combination of both!

Inspiration How do you get in the right frame of mind for composing?
I'll have a text that I want to set to music, but then I'll try writing something and it'll turn out to be completely wrong.
I find it very difficult to get into the right frame of mind.
How do you get the right kind of mood for certain types of music?
What if you want to write melancholy music, what if you want to write uplifting happy music?
Any suggestions?

My Graduate Recital... I don't know if any of you are from the New Jersey/New York area, but I thought I'd post this just in case. My graduate recital will be in the Recital Hall at Montclair State University on March 24th, 2007 at 8:00pm. The music being performed is going to include everything from some 20th century (tonal!) songs for guitar and voice, a few chamber pieces (a woodwind quartet and a string quartet), a couple jazz fusion tunes and maybe some Suspyre music. It's interesting that this is what gets on my recital since my main interests right now lie in microtonal music and large orchestral pieces.
Anyway, just thought I'd give a plug for my recital and hopefully start some communication on this blog.
