Correlates between two measures to Assess Creativity in Argentine Children. CREA and TTCT
Challenges in creativity & psychology for the XXI century, 2018
This study aimed to compare two performance tests that assess creativity in school-aged children.... more This study aimed to compare two performance tests that assess creativity in school-aged children. A total of 272 children of both sexes, aged 8-13 years, from different schools of the province of Entre Rios, completed the TTCT Figural, Form A and the Creative Intelligence test, CREA. For data analysis, partial correlations controlling for age and hierarchical regression analysis were used. The results showed significant positive correlations between the CREA and the skills Fluency, Originality, Elaboration and Resistance to Premature Closure of the TTCT; a significant positive correlation between the CREA and the final score of TTCT and the Innovative and the Adaptive factors was also found. Hierarchical regression showed that only Fluency, Elaboration, and both TTCT factors predict Creative Intelligence. These data suggest that the concurrent validity between both tasks is partial; hence, the CREA could be considered an interesting tool for screening, but it should be complemented with the evaluation of other aspects of creativity, not covered by their single scoreFil: Krumm, Gabriela Liliana.

To this end, we examined brain connectivity by using phase synchrony (i.e., phase locking value (PLV)) over the EEG signals acquired by the Emotiv EPOC neuroheadset in 15, 9- to 12-year-old children. Besides, as a complement, a power spectrum analysis of the acquired signals was performed. Our results indicated that, during d2 Test performance, there was an increase in global gamma phase synchronization and a regional increase in beta and delta bands. In addition, there was a global alpha -band desynchronization and to a lesser extent in theta activity. The increase in gamma ,beta and delta band synchronization, and alpha desynchronization would be consistent with the attention and concentration requiremen...

This consensus has developed further, based on the results of multidisciplinary studies on numerous sites over the last decade. Here in Part 2 we give an account of the application of those results by the Berriasian Working Group (ISCS), and present the stratigraphic evidence that justifies the selection of the locality of Tré Maroua (Hautes-Alpes, SE France) as the proposed GSSP. We describe a 45 m-thick section in the Calcaires Blancs vocontiens-that part of the formation covering the calpionellid Chitinoidella, Remanei. To date, no studies have examined neither its convergent and divergent validity in children nor its relationship with academic skills at school age. The aims of the present study were: (1) to examine the convergent and divergent validity of the d2 Test in a non-clinical pediatric population, (2) to explore the relationship between d2 task performance and academic skills (i.e., math, reading and writing abilities) and (3) to develop normative data for Spanish-speaking children (n = 360 8- to 12-year-old children) stratified by age and socioeconomic status (SES). Pearson's correlation and Structural Equation Models (SEM) were used to analyze the d2 Test validity and its relationship with academic skills. A between-subjects factorial MANOVA was used to examine differences among SES (Middle, Low), age (8-10, 11-12), and sex (male, female). Findings revea...

In S1 (n = 112 8-to 12-year-old children), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) showed best fit for the two-factor solution with reactive flexibility (RF) and spontaneous flexibility (SF) as separate but related components. When considering the joint contribution of WM and inhibition to both cognitive flexibility components, it was found that WM and inhibition contributed to SF, whereas only inhibition contributed to RF. Besides, only SF proved to be a significant predictor of writing and reading comprehension by using a latent-variable structural equation approach (SEM). In S2 (n = 177 8-to 13-year-old children), hierarchical regressions and SEM models showed consistently that the flexibility component in relation to creativity deals with the ability to generate diverse responses driven by internal stimuli (i.e., spontaneous flexibility). Taken together, these results suggest that cognitive flexibility is not a unified construct. Besides, the close relationship between SF and creativity and academic skills raise the question whether considering SF as a higher-level form of cognitive flexibility (different from a lower-level shifting skill) could be an interesting approach for the study of cognitive flexibility in children.

We evaluated a sample of 359 Spanish-speaking school children of both genders, aged 9 to 13 years. Personality was assessed with the Argentine Questionnaire of children’s Personality (CAPI). Creativity was evaluated using the following instruments: The Torrance Test of Creative Thinking-Figural Form B; and the Creative Personality Scale (EPC). Pearson correlations and multiple linear regressions consistently showed that Neuroticism related negatively to creativity while competence has a positive relation. The results suggested that more creative children presented less vulnerability, irritability and psychological distress, eventually becoming more independent, competent and emotionally self-regulated in coping with environmental demands.

First study in proposing a SEM model in order to explain the components that predict creative in Spanish-speaking children. Only cognitive flexibility predicts creativity in children and, in the presence of this executive function, intelligence would not have direct effects on creative potential. This study has implications for the understanding of the higher-order cognitive mechanisms that explain individual differences in creativity.

The objectives of Study 2 (S2) were (a) to study the comparability of the results obtained from the manual version to the results from the computer version in 43 children with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and (b) to compare task performance on both versions between children with ADHD and TD children. The effect of age was only significant for the manual WCST. Regression analyses revealed that WM and shifting contributed to manual WCST performance, whereas WM and inhibition contributed to the performance on the computer version. We observed differences depending on the WCST mode of administration, as better scores for the manual version were recorded for both TD children and children with ADHD, despite similar performance on tasks involving other EFs. Additionally, children with ADHD performed worse than TD children on both versions. Our findings suggest that verbal face-to-face interactions would play a significant role in supporting children's abilities to solve novel situations characterized by uncertainty.

The present study aimed at assessing with a valid and reliable measure some of those personality resources frequently associated in literature with child resilience -self-control, empathy, prosociality, self-efficacy and creativity. Two different studies were carried out in order to analyze different complementary aspects regarding the psychometric properties of the instruments. The first study (E1) was conducted with an intentional sample of 216 children of both sexes, aged 9 to 12 years from three Argentine provinces. The second study (E2) was carried out with a sample of 479 children with similar characteristics to those of E1. Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis were performed and the discriminative power of the items, the internal consistency of the instrument and different analysis of discriminant and convergent construct validity were studied. Results of both studies indicated that the final version of the instrument meets the expected criteria for validity and reliability. From a brief psychological test of easy administration, the scale developed enables to obtain a profile of personality resources associated with the child resilience. Bearing in mind that such resources are just one of those aspects to be considered in the assessment of this significant construct, it is suggested to further supplement this information with the assessment of the risks and the competences in other areas of psychological development.

Based on previous literature, four theoretical models were compared to explain the creativity construct as measured by the TTCT Figural, Form A, in a sample of Argentine children. This work also examined whether the structure found through the CFA was invariant across sex. A sample of 381 Spanish-speaking children and adolescents aged 9-12 years was studied. The CFA identified two correlated factors: Innovative and Adaptive. The best-fit model indicated that the TTCT-Figural Form A is composed of two factors: innovative and adaptive ( 2 = 3.88; df = 4; p = 0.423; GFI = 1.00, NFI = 0.99; CFI = 1.00, and RMSEA = 0.000). These factors included the skills proposed by . It was also found that the two-factor model was invariant (i.e., configural, metric, scalar, and structural) across sex. Finally, MANOVAs results revealed that there are no differences in each subscale of the factors found according to sex. The results are discussed in view of the psychometric implications and their significance in the educational and psychological spheres.

The aim of this work was to study the construct validity of the Torrance Test of Creative Thinkin... more The aim of this work was to study the construct validity of the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking (TTCT) by means of Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA).
