Regarding english area studies class for the study abroad, I'm considering the following 2 classes and any comments/feedback about the course/professor would be really helpful =) Or if you want to reccomend a different (more fun?) course that satisfies this requirement, that would be great, too. Hazing | [02 Apr 2006|01:17am] |
---|---|
Hello, we are two students at Rochester Institute of Technology currently engaged in an independent study project addressing the issue of hazing in New York. The goal of this project is two-pronged - we wish to discover the prevalence of hazing in the state as well as get your opinion on what should be done about it, if anything.Under the lj-cut is our survey, which asks a variety of questions about your personal experiences with hazing, and we would greatly appreciate it if you could take a minute or two from your time to fill it out really quickly. We even have questions at the beginning for those who have never experienced hazing but wish to share their opinion on the subject. Additionally, each question gives you the option to answer in more detail beyond the choices we have already provided. We encourage you to take advantage of this if you have more include in your answer.Your responses to this survey are anonymous, so please do not put your name (or any information that would identify you) anywhere on this survey. You may quit the survey at any time and for any reason, or you may decline to answer any of the questions, but your responses to every question are important and we ask that you answer as many of the questions as you possibly can. You may post your answers however you like - under your user name, anonymously, or you may e-mail them to us at hazing.survey@gmail.com. All posts will be screened, so no one except you, us, and the community administrator will be able to see your responses. Please inform us of any questions, concerns, or feedback you might have. If you do not feel that this survey belongs in this community, or if you are offended by any part of it, please let us know and we will be more than willing to take it down. Thank you in advance for your time.( SurveyCollapse )(X-posted to other New York communities) | |

DO YOU WANT A HOUSE? | [31 Jan 2006|10:41pm] |
---|---|
Hello, A few friends and I are looking to transfer a lease for 200 Highland Avenue. We signed the lease fall semester but with a few of the girls pledging houses with mandatory live in policies we have some problems. It is a 9-10 person house. (Also a possibility is that there will only need to be three spots filled, as some of the girls might stay. Rest assured, all these girls are really nice and not raucously loud or anything like that.) It has a really nice, newly remodeled kitchen with 2 refridgerators, a dishwasher and an island. It has 3 and a half baths and all the rooms are really huge. Like take the biggest single you know at at least double it. It is on North only a block away from the suspension bridge. It has a nice lawn which is taken care of (as is shoveling) and it has FREE PARKING for up to ten cars. We figured it with nine people to be approximately 550/month INCLUDING utilities, cable, etc. If interested AT ALL, please leave a comment or call me (Caitlin) at 978-846-3484. And if you aren't interested and you know of ANYBODY who might be interested, please call anyways!Thank you! | |

ok i still don't know you... | [08 Oct 2005|07:56pm] |
---|---|
[ **mood** | hopeful ] You know, this is going on long enough...I've shared a bed with you, I've let you ravage me for sexual pleasure...I think it's time I got to know you...ok, so the ravaging and bed part are lies, but cmon! We have been invading each other's personal thoughts DAILY, and some of us have never even met. Now that I think about it, that's actually kinda cool, but I'd really like to meet all of you. I've only spoken to Matt Tobacco, Gisselle, and...this one girl that lives in my building (Court Hall). It'd be cool if we could all come up with a date when we could just hang out together and at least see each other's faces...facebook is not enough. Please comment on this so we can come up with a good date to meet. Maybe we can catch dinner in Collegetown or something (Aladdin's has good food). Lemme know what ya think, guys (and gals - for those of you that INSIST on political correctness). | |

Firefly Marathon this Saturday! | [15 Sep 2005|09:18pm] |
---|---|
Who: Risley Residential College, the Cornell Science Fiction Society, U.S.S. Accord, and anyone else who wants to be thereWhat: Firefly MarathonWhen: Saturday, September 17, 12PM-12AMWhere: The TV Room in Risley Hall's first floorWhy: Because we adore Joss WhedonRisley Residential College presents a Firefly Marathon, co-sponsored by the Cornell Science Fiction Society and U.S.S. Accord. Come join us for twelve hours of sci-fi/western fun.DESCRIPTION-----------For those who don't know, Firefly was a short-lived science fiction television series that aired on FOX in fall 2002. It lasted 15 episodes before it was canceled--and three episodes never even made it to air in the original run. The series had a strong fan following, though, due in part to the fact that it was created by Joss Whedon, who was also creator of such other cult classic TV shows as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. The complete Firefly series was released on DVD in 2003, and sold really well. Universal Studios was so impressed with these DVD sales that they decided to greenlight a feature film sequel to the TV show, called Serenity. This film is due to hit theaters on September 30.To prepare for, and celebrate, the release of Serenity, we will be watching the entire run of Firefly, in its original intended airing order, straight through in one sitting. All 15 commercial-free episodes. All in one day. Can you handle it? If so, join us!Come for an hour. Come for a few episodes. Come for the whole thing. You know you want to.FOOD----Somewhere in the middle of this whole thing, we'll probably order some pizza. So if you want to eat, bring some cash, probably around $5 per person. Also feel free to bring some soda and/or snacks to share.DIRECTIONS----------Risley Hall is located on Cornell University's North Campus, on Thurston Avenue across the street from Balch Hall. Enter the building through the front doors in the middle of the building; if the doors are locked, knock and somebody should let you in. Turn right after entering; the TV Room is located immediately on the left. If you run into the dining hall, you've gone too far.Driving in for the event? Parking is most likely to be available on Thurston Avenue. Ignore the parking meters, since it's all free on weekends.I hope to see you there.--Will Devinex-posted | |

ride to NYC? | [15 Sep 2005|02:20pm] |
---|---|
I need a ride to NYC on Friday the 23rd after 5pm or anytime Saturday, it's the 2-year anniversary of my grandfather's death so I'd really like to be home for that. I'd be going back on Sunday afternoon or night sometime. I live in Staten Island, and would like to be dropped off there, but Manhattan is fine if necessary (I can always take the ferry). I'm of course willing to pay for half of the gas etc. If you can do it, e-mail me at dem64@cornell.edu . Thanks! | |

I need a ride to Giants Stadium on September 1st to see a Green Day concert. It's a Thursday, though, and although I'm definitely going to have class on Friday, I'd be willing to miss it because this is very important. Is anyone going who will give me a ride? I am fully willing to pay for a full tank of gas and other costs, etc. | |

So... How are you all progressing on the summer reading/writing assignment? I've found myself frozen about one-third of the way through Things Fall Apart, unable to pull myself away from some of the other summer reading stuff I'm working on... And I'll be attending POST the week before orientation, so I don't have too much time left before summer's effectively "over". gack. | |

In order to facilitate more pre-orientation dialogue, I suggest that people post interesting questions (rather than full multi-question surveys) for us to answer in comments. I think it might be a better system than introductory surveys, as people are more inclined to go into detail- which is more helpful in getting a feel for their personality- when faced with one specific question, and it's also nice to have everyone be focused and 'on the same page', as it were, in considering both the question and other people's answers to it.so.What single work of art- whether a novel, a film, an album, a theatre piece, a poem, a sculpture, or anything else- has had the most profound impact on your life and your way of thinking? (and why? what sort of impact? any related personal anecdote? etc... Just elaborate somehow in a good paragraph-sized answer.) | |
