Additionally, it aids medical students in overcoming various challenges they encounter when adjusting to a new academic setting. Orientation sessions are held in a variety of medical colleges and are widespread worldwide. This paper discusses the five-day orientation program held at the Gandaki Medical College Teaching Hospital and Research Center, Pokhara, Nepal for the newly admitted first-year undergraduate medical students of the 2022 academic year. The institution, teaching-learning activities, respective curricula, and faculty members were introduced to the new students.

This hidden trap harbors plaque and bacteria around the tooth, ensuing periodontal destruction with or without pulpal pathologic changes. Several treatment modalities have been proposed for its management ranging from endodontic treatment, periodontal therapy or combined. Here, we present a case of a type II palatogingival groove causing endodontic-periodontal lesion successfully managed by endodontic treatment followed by periodontal surgery with an uneventful healing. Thus, this anomaly should be recognized early with timely intervention to avoid widespread involvement.

In the interdental spaces, periodontal disorders are more common as a result, removing plaque from these regions is critical. This can be managed by using various interdental cleaning aids such as dental floss, interdental brushes, and chemical agents such as mouth washes. Thus, the aim of our study is to assess the knowledge of other oral hygiene aids except brushing among medical and dental students in a Teaching hospital. This is a knowledge, attitude, and practices model of analyzing the knowledge of adjunctive oral hygiene aids performance and measures other than tooth brushing among medical and dental students. MATERIAL AND METHODS A Knowledge, Attitude and Practices (KAP) survey was designed for the present cross-sectional study which was conducted for a period of three months from July 2021 to September 2021 among a sample of 275 medical and dental undergraduates in a Teaching hospital. Pre-tested structured 22-item closed-ended questionnaire was given to each on survey tool and the link was passed to the participants. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS (version 21.0) software. RESULTS The response rate for the present survey was 98.9% (272 participants). It was seen that, 29.78% participants reported that poor oral hygiene is the main cause of bleeding and 59.19 % believed that poor oral hygiene is responsible for bad breath. A total of 65.81% reported that most widely recommended interdental aid to be used is dental floss. On gender wise comparison, significant positive response (p< 0.05)was seen among females for items (2,6,11) as compared to males. On stream wise comparison, significant positive response (p< 0.05) was seen among dentists for items (16,17,20) as compared to medical students. CONCLUSION The study concluded that dental and medical students must be encouraged to be good role models in practicing as well as promoting oral health for their patients, families, friends and ultimately the society.

It can be characterized by enamel hypoplasia, hypomaturation, or hypocalcification of the teeth. AI may be associated with some other dental and skeletal developmental defects. Restoration for patients with this condition should be oriented toward the functional and esthetic rehabilitation. This clinical report describes the oral rehabilitation of a young patient diagnosed with the hypoplastic type of AI in posterior teeth and hypomatured type of AI in anterior teeth.

The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of maxillary labial frenum and its’ variations among patients visiting a tertiary care hospital.MethodsThis analytical cross-sectional study was conducted from July 2022 to March 2023 among 385 patients. The demographic details of the participants were recorded and the types of frenal attachment and its’ morphological variations were assessed using the classification by Mirko et al. and Sewerin. Pearson Chi-square test was used to determine the association between categorical variables where p-value ≤0.05 was considered statistically significant.ResultsThe most prevalent frenum was found to be gingival 237(61.56%) while the least common was papillary penetrating type 29(7.53%). The aim of the study was to clinically and radiographically compare the effectiveness of Hydroxyapatite bone alloplast with combination bone alloplast (Hydroxyapatite and ?-Tricalcium phosphate) for the treatment of Grade II mandibular furcation involvements. Methods: Thirty patients with bilateral Grade II mandibular furcation involvements were distributed in Group A (Hydroxyapatite) and Group B (Hydroxyapatite and ?-Tricalcium phosphate). Clinical parameters such as Plaque Index, Gingival Index, Probing Pocket Depth, Clinical Attachment Level and Horizontal Probing Depth were recorded at baseline and at one, three and six mths postoperatively. Radiographic bone fill measurements were recorded at baseline and six months post-operatively. Results: Both the groups showed statistically significant (p <0.01) improvement in clinical and radiographic parameters at each recall visits. Inter-group comparison of clinical parameters showed no significant difference in both the groups whereas radiographic measurements following six months post-surgery showed significantly (p <0.05) greater amount of bone fill in Group B compared to Group A. Conclusions: It can be concluded that at six months post-operative, both the alloplastic materials resulted in significant improvement in clinical parameters and no significant difference was found between both groups. There was a statistically significant radiographic bone fill when a combination of Hydroxyapatite and ?-Tricalcium phosphate was used demontrating its effectiveness in the treatment of Grade II Furcation involvement.

However, due to various pathologies and conditions, it can be undetectable. This study aimed to assess the distribution of patients having teeth without clinically detectable mucogingival junction in mandibular anteriors. Various etiologies leading to clinically undetectable mucogingival junction were also identified. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 312 patients who visited the department of Periodontics of Gandaki Medical College Teaching Hospital and Research Center, Pokhara from July 26 to November 26, 2022. The visual method, rolling probe method, tension test and histochemical staining were used to detect the mucogingival junction. To ascertain the relationship between age and gender with the distribution of data, descriptive analysis and the Pearson Chi-square test was used. A p-value <0.05 was considered statistic...

The primary advantage of this treatment modality is the diminution of healing time and reduced alveolar process resorption. Regenerative materials can be used as an adjunct with implants in order to triumph high implant survival rate and enrich good esthetic outcome. This case report illustrates treatment protocol and one-year clinical follow-up of a patient who underwent atraumatic extraction of his fractured mandibular central incisor, followed by immediate implant placement with bone grafts.

The hidden trap in the tooth can harbor plaque and bacteria, resulting in periodontal destruction with or without pulpal pathologic change. Related diseases can involve periodontal destruction, combined endodontic-periodontal lesions, or separate endodontic and periodontal lesions. Disease severity and prognosis related to PGG depend on several factors, including location, range, depth, and type of the groove. Several materials have been used and recommended for cases of extensive periodontal destruction from PGG to remove and block the inflammatory source and recover the health of surrounding periodontal tissues. Even in cases of severe periodontal destruction, several studies have reported favorable treatment outcomes with proper management. With new options in diagnosis and treatment, clinicians need a detailed understanding of the characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of PGG to successfully manage the condition.
