Three types of wood structure were investigated: settings of 1 to 3 large posts, channel-edge post alignments, and hurdles. Channels contained artefacts washed, or deposited, from occupation areas which are perhaps now eroded away. Activity is early and middle Bronze Age. Preliminary results of pollen analysis are reported. Saltmarsh conditions were followed by a thin reed peat in the channel top; there is evidence for burning of coastal vegetation.

"This paper first considers the role of accuracy amongst other objectives of projection activity. Accepting accuracy as a legitimate goal, we then assess the performance of 48 sets of population projections and forecasts for states and territories of Australia prepared since 1970. Projection accuracy is assessed by reference to length of forecast horizon, population size and rate of growth. We also examine the main sources of forecast error in selected projections for each state and compare the performance of past projections with alternatives based on simple extrapolation of contemporary population trends."

In less than half of these, another condition was found or later identified, which explained the symptoms leading to operation. Ovarian lesions, acute ileocolitis, and serositis were the most frequently identified abnormalities. Twelve patients (11 percent) underwent definitive procedures in addition to appendectomy. Among patients in whom no abnormality was identified at laparotomy, peritoneal cultures yielded a broad range of organisms in 42 percent of those who had cultures. This may represent a mild form of acute primary peritonitis and may explain the symptoms which were confused with acute appendicitis.
