_11:17 am_[chattycheese] Just FYI for all you Lancastrians:Mr. (Rich) Groff, the old site director, is having some health issues. He had open heart surgery two weeks ago. He had had a heart attack in his sleep, and went into the hospital with flu symptoms, and ended up having emergency open heart surgery later on that day. He's now out of the hospital and doing well. We're all expecting him to be back at school after christmas. But if you could just keep a thought out for him, that'd be great.CaitlinJHU Session 2 2002 ISCICAR Session 1 2003 Genetics[x-posted everywhere, sorry to eat up your f-list] (5 Comments |Comment on this)

_5:54 pm_[pubs_jukebox] Saratoga Traditions Hey all. I just discovered this community. I've attened CTY @ Saratoga Springs for the past three years, this being my last. (very sadly). There are some traditions unfamiliar to the non-Saratogians. They are: 1) Love Tape Day- began a few years ago, not sure by whom. What is it: you take a few rolls of tape, distribute strips of it and have people rip pieces off and plaster it on it each other. It symbolizes the love and is done to every CTYer. When: Second Tuesday. 2) Love Rock Day- started last year by my friend Emily. What is it: Emily found rocks (good ones) and wrote love on them. Then she slipped them into people's pockets without them noticing. They'd empty their pockets later to find a love rock in it. Again, it symbolizes love. This is done to your closer friends. When: Last Tuesday 3) Goth Day/Black Pride Day/Mark Hazel Rememberance Day- I'm sorry if there are any "goth" kids here and if this offends you, but last year my friends and I decided to wear all black one day (Naughty Catholic Schoolgirl Day) because we didn't have skirts. We have a friend named Mark Hazel who was awesome, but got into trouble with admin a lot. What is it: So this year, (mark was a nevermore last year '04), we all dressed up in all black and remembered Mark. It's also Black Pride Day because the term goth can be rather offensive. When: Last Wednesday Current Mood: nostalgic (13 Comments |Comment on this)

_7:27 pm_[jqsilver] Recently I decided to try to teach my Larper friends about Scum the Masquerade, a card game I learned at CTY. I seem to remember there being expanded rules for "non-Cam" powers, but an in-depth Google has only turned up the standard set of rules. Does anyone know what happened to the extra rules, or where I might find a copy? I apologize if this isn't really on CTY topic, but it's the best way I could think of to ask as many ctyers as possible. (7 Comments |Comment on this)

_7:11 pm_[lakehmm] American Pie History Here at CTYI in Dublin, a history of the American Pie tradition is being compiled. Yes, it's here as well. Anywho, we have a basic outline of how the tradition came about, but if you have any information as to its history it would be greatly appreciated if you shared it with us. Information on the chant (DIE DIE DIE DIE LIVE LIVE LIVE LIVE SEX SEX SEX SEX MORE MORE MORE MORE) is needed especially. Please refrain from sharing little stories that start with "this one time..." that took place within the last 5 years between you and your friends. We're trying to find out how this tradition started and its early history. What we have so far:It was played last at the first CTY dance of the first CTY, which took place in the 70s when American Pie was in the charts. It was requested at subsequent dances, so its being played became a tradition. Certain elements of the tradition that go along with the lyrics are more or less self-explanatory (kicking off shoes, screaming, etc.), but we don't have a definitive origin for the chant yet.In addition, origin stories for any other traditions are more than welcome. _11:19 am_[umassbluangel] I have a CTY job opportunity for you all. The only real restriction is you have to be male. But if you know a guy who is looking, pass this on to them. It pays $2100 for 6 weeks (which is more than menial jobs in your area will pay). It's a Resident Assistant position in Chestertown , Maryland . It’s right next to the ocean and part of the free food they feed you is seafood! It looks great on a resume because you are employed by Johns Hopkins University . You get free parking, housing, food and gym. The only thing you pay for is travel to and from the site (so if you live in Cali , you may not want to do this). You get plenty of time off. You work with 60 staff and roughly 200 kids (5th and 6th grade). It's located at Washington College in Chestertown , PA. It is located 70 miles east of Baltimore . It goes from June 20-August 8. Go here for more information http://www.jhu.edu/cty/summer/employment/ra.html Now when you read this, you may read something that says “3.2 GPA desired” but that just means it’s desired not required. Email him if you have any interest at all even if you don’t think you fit the qualifications! If you are interested, email ctymichael@jhu.edu AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. If you have any questions about the job let me know! (4 Comments |Comment on this)

_11:51 am_[pookieapril] A favor. Hey guys.- How much do you get paid to be an RA?- How much do you get paid to be a TA?- How much do you get paid to be a professor (that sounds so funny, since we all just call them by their first names, I love C--)?- How much did attending C-- cost this coming summer?Any input would be great. For my computers class we have to do a business proposal, I was assigned to do a summer art camp, and since C-- is what I know and love, I based it off that. The next part of my presentation is financials, and I'd love to have something that wasn't completely bullshit.[[Cross posted, sorry to eat your friends page]]. (Comment on this)

_7:28 pm_[lipstickfriday] For anyone going on financial aid this year, have you gotten your letter about it yet? I applied maybe a week after early registration opened, and sent my financial aid stuff in about a week after that. I keep getting things about what course I got, and financial statements and whatnot, but nothing about if i got a scholarship. Everything I get has a section saying that if I haven't received my financial aid information, to call JHU, but whenever I do, they tell me not to worry, that they're not done processing anything. So, long story short, anyone want to tell me if they know what's going on?If you've gotten your financial aid already please tell me; if i don't get it this year i can't go, so i'm really worried.X-posted in every CTY community imaginable. _1:38 am_[gaeamalfoy] may i play with your lightsaber? *lecherous grin*hello. storytime.a friend of mine my second year, nick, was in the carlisle lip sync. he did his to weird al yankovic's american pie parody (bye bye mr anakin guy...that one). he had this big encompassing brown cloak that was his jedi robe and a fake lightsaber that he got to swing around. after the lip sync me, him, and our friends todd and josh were all standing around waiting in line for ice cream. i am struck with an evil idea.todd: should i be afraid of that look?me: yes. yes you should. *turn to nick* *in lecherous voice* may i play with your lightsaber, nick?todd's eyes nearly popped out of his head. he was doubled over laughing and i thought he was about to fall on the ground and have a seizure (todd was still a little gawky). "good god, carley! do not ever say that to a man!!"the entire session i tormented all three of those boys. "may i play with your lightsaber?" at the most random moments. asking them right before we went in for class usually had fun effects. by the end of the session all i had to say was lightsaber and they got the idea. i arrived at CTY this past summer for my third year and josh was the only one still there (todd and nick were nomores my second year). he was one of the first people i saw. he laughed when he saw me and i asked what was so funny. he responded "i see you and i just can't help thinking, lightsaber!" Current Mood: why can't i sleeeeeeep? (Comment on this)

_6:31 pm_[sing_you_fools] intro, and passionfruit? Hi everyone...new to this community, Bristol 2002 session 1 Writing the Expository Essay (went by Lyz) , 2003 session 2 philosophy (usually called Rachael here...that would be my real name...and had green hair) and 2004 session 2 intro to logic (known mainly by Pirate). ANYWAY I am here to express my anger at the fact that my site does not do Passionfruit. I don't know if this is because it's a CAA site not CTY...do the others do it? But my brother, who goes to Siena every year, explained to me what it is and I, being a nevermore, felt SO left out. And I think I am going to get myself a passionfruit juice and do it by myself...any others can join if you live near me but I doubt that. Also, if there are any other CAA people who feel left out in the CTY communities, there is now a caa_alltheway, which I monitor, created almost completely out of spite for this RA who thought he was cooler than everyone at Bristol just because he went to CTY, and he 'can't believe they assigned him to a fake CTY site'. So I'm not saying all CTYers are like this, I have many friends who are, but really we need our space too, right? Okay maybe not. But please join because it's cool! Thanks you guys are all awesome because you're cty people (3 Comments |Comment on this)

_10:12 pm_[willab03] Maybe people could put their seperate legends in seperate posts, rather than comments, so their easier to read? It's so cool for an old-timer to realize some of this stuff is still remembered!!(okay, I'll admit, a lot of me is mostly interested in what's remembered at Saratoga....)
