The first part examined the aerosol optical depth (AOD) value by using the MODIS satellite products and compared with historical air pollution index (API). Time series modeling and historical weather events were combined for analyzing the cycle pattern of haze.
In the second part, potential pollutant sources were illustrated with evidence from China Statistics Yearbook and other published theses, including external sand storm, construction site dust, industrial emission, transportation emission and others. The corresponding regulations toward improving air quality contain city water spray, artificial rain and penalty on companies and institutions whose emission volume exceed the standard. However, the latest monitoring results have not shown support on the effectiveness of the regulations. The details reasons would be discussed in the later chapters of the paper.
