It looks at: (1) the context and controversy of the Bible in the public square; (2) the concentration and conservation of the Bible in the public square; (3) the culture and control of the Bible in the public square; (4) the current and construction of the Bible in the public square; and (5) the challenge and contribution of the Bible in the public square. A broader and brighter prospect is provided, as insights and lessons drawn from history, with a positive perspective looking forward to the Bible and the public square in China.

Then it reviews briefly on the short history of the discipline of biblical studies in Asia past and present, leading to a projection on the future of the biblical past in the rising Asia. It argues that a focus on the ”public relevance” of the discipline is necessary if the discipline is to arouse research interest and intellectual concern among the academia in Asia. It also provides a short list of research areas, modern themes and concepts that are of interest to the rising Asian contexts and also closely related to biblical studies.
