_12:56 pm_[thisis_whatido] Salim made it on the front page of GuideLive in the Dallas Morning News on Thursday. Salim Nourallah records alliances, new CDPOP MUSIC: New CD is latest step in work that begins and ends at Pleasantry Lane08:30 AM CDT on Thursday, August 23, 2007By HUNTER HAUK / Staff Writer It's dark at Pleasantry Lane, Salim Nourallah's recording studio behind his East Dallas home. So dark that your eyes have to adjust before you can survey the main room. There's an upright piano with a handful of music-award trophies resting on top, guitars and cables on the floor, drums in the corner, a strange dog painting here, a Beatles poster there. And then there are the Polaroids on the walls. Countless Polaroids. "Everybody who records here gets their picture taken," Mr. Nourallah says as he walks into his windowless control room. "It's pretty amazing when you see how many have come through here." Not counting the all-stars who've played on Mr. Nourallah's solo albums (including Snowing in My Heart, his latest), he's overseen projects for many other local artists: Deathray Davies, Kristy Kruger, Old 97's, Johnny Lloyd Rollins and J.D. Whittenburg, to name a few. "I feel really lucky that this studio has been a platform for me to help people come over and have fun playing music," he says. ( Read more...Collapse ) (Comment on this)

_4:37 pm_[lisastrawberry] I entered Salim's videos in the Texas Indie Music Video Festival, and 1978 made it!!!PLEASE go to the fun night of the festival, at Alamo Downtown, and help make Salim the winner!!The audience gets to VOTE!!!It's on Weds. March 1, 9:45!!I can't wait!!!!From The Alamo website:I love music videos - they’re the only kind of truly formalist filmmaking that’s openly embraced by the mainstream, which makes them subversive by default. And I’ve always had great admiration for independent bands that pour all their money and energy into making these epic four-minute creations that, in reality, don’t get seen by that many people. While the internet certainly increases visibility, it doesn’t compare with seeing your masterpiece on the big screen with your family and friends. So we’ve started what we hope will be a yearly tradition of celebrating Texas indie music talent with a showcase of the finest homegrown music videos of the last few years. SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW CLOSED.Thanks for your submissions, everyone - we had a surprising number of submissions, and as such not every video got into the final program. The program will include the following videos: Peter & The Wolf - "How I Wish"Single Frame - "There's an Exact Copy of this in the Basement"Fishboy - "A Surprise Return"The Kodiaks - "Watch My Soul"Canoe - "C'mon"Arthur Yoria - "I'll Be Here Awake"American Boyfriends - "Microvision"Black Angels - "Black Grease"Michael Dvorken - "Monster Patrol"Rachel Goldstar - "To Berlin"Rockland Eagles - "I Am A Rocket"The Tah Dahs - "Woo Hoo Hoo"Aurora Plastics Co. - "Psychedelic Perpetrator"King Brothers - "Astronaut Song"**Salim Nourallah - "1978"**Okkervil River - "For Real"John Schooley & his One-Man Band - "Drive You Faster"Arnie Sykes - "Who's Ya Daddy?"Arab League - "King Frahd"The Story Of - "A Dark Cloud in Scorpius" Current Mood: excited (Comment on this)

_12:35 pm_[thisis_whatido] Nourallah puts his stamp on the scene February 16, 2006By HUNTER HAUK / Quick MAN ABOUT TOWN: Dallas singer-songwriter Salim Nourallah is everywhere. He's probably standing behind you as you read this. Well, maybe not, but he comes up a lot in conversations about local music. Want proof? We received an e-mail from local musician Chris Holt last week letting us know that his 2005 solo album, Summer Reverb, will be re-released by local label Summer Break Records in March, probably to coincide with South by Southwest. Mr. Holt didn't realize we knew all about him (humble much?), so he listed several of his local connections. The first? That he plays guitar for the Noise, one of Mr. Nourallah's backup bands. While checking out a recent acoustic set by Travis Hopper at Poor David's Pub, we ran into Dallas singer-songwriter Jayson Bales, who happened to be headlining the same show. He mentioned that his upcoming album, Cruel and Unusual , was produced by Mr. Nourallah. Same goes for Mr. Hopper's new CD, All the Lights in the City Tonight. Hear Mr. Bales' music at www.jaysonbales.com. We hear Mr. Nourallah performed brilliantly at Good Records' sixth birthday bash on Saturday. Check out some of the live performances from that day at www.texas gigs.com. Good Records will open the doors of its new location at 1808 Greenville on Friday. See Mr. Nourallah (man, myth, etc.) with his other backup band, the Polaroids, Saturday at Sons of Hermann Hall. (1 Comment |Comment on this)
