Water management has been one of the most important factors in Mayan settlements, either by lack ... more Water management has been one of the most important factors in Mayan settlements, either by lack of water or by the excess of it. Hence the need for hydraulic features that allow its control and use. Investigations at Kaminaljuyu through the years have brought to light these elements and their function relatedto weather habitational or public areas. Recent findings of channels at Mound C-IV-4 southwestern area have confirmed the water management importance at a place near the extinct Miraflores lake, expanding the already know knowledge on the subject and making an aportation on the role of it in the site history.

Después de varias temporadas de recorridos en la región alrededor del sitio, se encontraron varia... more Después de varias temporadas de recorridos en la región alrededor del sitio, se encontraron varias canchas de juego de pelota en la parte oeste de Uaxactun, confirmados por LiDAR. Estas están relacionadas con sitios satelitales, ubicados a una distancia de entre 2 a 10 km del núcleo de la ciudad. Las excavaciones en la temporada 2017 ayudaron a averiguar la existencia de estas estructuras y definir su cronología. La información obtenida nos lleva conocer mejor el desarrollo urbano, social y las relaciones políticas dentro del sistema de la ciudad-estado. Dentro del programa de investigación, destaca el hallazgo de un marcador fechado para el Clásico Temprano, de mucha importancia por su iconografía e inscripciones bien conservadas. Nos ayuda a entender aún mejor la secuencia dinástica y el ritualismo en la ciudad antigua de Uaxactun

This article documents the transition from the Late Classic to Postclassic periods at Río Amarill... more This article documents the transition from the Late Classic to Postclassic periods at Río Amarillo, a hinterland outpost of the Copan polity, and at an associated residential group, Site 5, in the Río Amarillo East Pocket of the Copan Valley. Late Classic period evidence indicates that the site of Río Amarillo operated as an administrative center for the Copan polity with the likely objective of increased agricultural production for the burgeoning population in the Copan Pocket. In the Terminal Classic period, Río Amarillo shared the fate of Copan, with evidence indicating it was burned and sacked. However, unlike the Copan Pocket, many residential groups remained occupied during the Early Postclassic. Here we focus on Site 5. An unbroken occupation from the Late Classic through to the end of the Early Postclassic period, as this site provides a window into an existence without the requirements of tribute given to their western neighbor.
