Curly Hair (original) (raw)

So, when I was younger I had kinda wavy hair, never took care of them properly (brushed them, or rather, my mother forced me to constantly brush my hair because she always said they look "messy"; used only shampoo and that's it) as you can see in pics 1, 2, 3. Then, I started to bleach my hair and dye them a lot, and my curls started to get more and more straight, and in the pic number 4 is what my hair (more or less, usually they are more tightly curled than that but they were so nicely clumped there so I had to take a pic, lol) looks like when it is wet (and scrunched out with a t-shirt, no products on it), but it becomes basically straight after drying (whether I put on gel or not) as you can see in the last pic, and that is my biggest question - WHY?
I am asking this mostly, because I just cannot understand why it's happening, but also because I don't know if it's worth to start trying to transition and see if I can do something about my hair. Of course, nobody can actually tell what would happen if I started a cg method, but I just don't know if I should? I just wonder if my hair isn't just going straight as the years go by? I know that can happen. Or is my hair just way too damaged and that could be why it looks so bad? Do you think my hair can be saved and if it actually can be curly, or it's just straight at this point and there's nothing I can do?
If I scrunch out my hair with a t-shirt they are curly (but go straight after drying), but if I brush my hair (wet, after having washed it) it usually stays straight, maybe curls a bit at the bottom and in the middle and it got me so confused. I watch a lot of videos from curly girls, and their hair starts to curl back up after brushing them, so I don't know if I'm just trying to save something that's lost, and my hair's ni longer wavy, haha.
Another big problem with my hair is that it's so very stringy and frizzy. It doesn't look that bad in those pics, but it IS really bad. I just don't know what to do. I know it's quite a long post, but any help, please?

Can anyone recommend a good hairspray that can tame those little fuzzy flyaways? I want something light/non-sticky if possible.
*I already use other products that help define my curls and make them fairly shiny, but I still always have those stubborn frizzies on top of my head that don't blend-in with my other hair. Someone on a youtube video says she uses hairspray on them, and then smooths it down with her hands. I want to try that.
I haven't used hairspray since about 1994, so I'm not even sure what's out there right now.
you'd think conditioner only washing would leave your hair nicely moisturizing but no, my hair is feeling dry. i used the whole foods brand conditioner- it's not the most moisturizing conditioner out there but i thought maybe just using conditioner would condition my hair enough. i also used a flax seed gelee, which has conditioning properties as well. bah. any suggestions/recs for co washing appreciated.
Ladies, can you recommend a flat iron that is good quality, but doesn't cost hundreds? (I can't afford a really nice one, and also I'd probably only use it once a month or so anyway. So let's say something you can get at Target or Walmart, etc.)
Actually, I don't even want stick-straight hair, I'd like to be able to easily add (big) curls if I want. I know NOTHING about straighteners. Would a curling brush be better?

So a friend of mine who is a stylist and a salon owner suggested the new Truth about Curls line from Paul Mitchel.
found out a friend works for them and he hooked me up with a sample set of the line
OMG - I am in love!
I have 2b waves (I think) and just tried the shampoo along with the leave in conditioner (very small amount of the 'poo even tho I was a sweaty sweaty mess from a workout a small amount was all that was needed)
my waves/curls are defined but the hair feels really light and there is no frizz
have not tried the Twirl Around url definer but I have high hopes

hello all
I have what I think is 2b hair and I actually prefer to use just conditioner to cleanse the hair and not a lot of products
any one suggest a product that won't weigh my hair down but also moisturize? I did have some luck with WEN products but the latest batch was the wintermint and my hair started falling out in clumps (and I have fine hair to begin with!) the fig was OK but it did seem to weigh down the hair
currently using the conditioner at my gym and this is looking to be a bad idea as while my hair isn't falling out, the frizz is insane
also, samples would be good as I don't want to plunk down 20 bucks on a product and find it doesn't work.
sulfate free would be awesome as well
I am so overwhelmed and was traumatized by the hair falling out that I am a bit gun shy to try anything
thanks!

Has anyone done (or is currently doing) water only cleansing + conditioner to condition? If so, how's it working for you? I'm very interested in doing water only to cleanse+conditioner but am curious how it's working for others.
Thanks!
UPDATE: Thanks everyone for responding. I tried the water only cleansing+conditioner but my hair was a weird combo of both too dry and oily. Tonight, I did co-wash with V05 Moisture Milks and then put Mixed Chicks leave in conditioner, then a dollop of LA Looks sports gel and plopped. We will see how it works out......

I'm getting my hair professionally dyed for the first time ever. I'm so excited. I'm going slightly darker. Has anyone lost their waves/curls when they dyed their hair? Thanks!

Checked memories and tags and couldn't find anything on it, so: anybody do this? How does it work for your hair? Do you use baking soda or anything else instead? My hair is SUPER-THICK and I get a layer of GUNK on my scalp from shampoo cos I can't get it fully rinsed out and it's gross, and I am not too crazy about putting various chemical stuff on my head all the time either. Thoughts?

Hi there! Just wanted to share!
This is what my hair looked like after a haircut in March or April. It came down to the middle of my back. I haven't cut it since then, and now it's down to my lower back and lost a lot of body. Time for another haircut I guess haha.
