The researchers conducted a phenomenological study to examine how teachers apply curriculum adaptations for learners with learning impairments in the Foundation Phase through their teaching experience. The sample consisted of 20 Foundation Phase teachers and 22 learners. The authors Interviewed 20 teachers and observed interactions between teachers and learners as well as between learners. The findings suggested that although most teachers (18) claimed that they adapted the product, they in fact only adapted time and activities. The researchers recommends in-service training for teachers by Learning Support Advisors (LSAs) and Subject Advisors (SAs) on how to adapt curricula to the needs of learners with learning impairments in the Foundation Phase. The researchers designed a model on how Foundation Phase teachers could adapt the curriculum for learners with lear...

A teachers' questionnaire on the application of the science process skills in the teaching of Geography was constructed and the questionnaire was content validated against the theoretical assumptions supported by the literature and practical applications of the subject. The questionnaires were distributed to 150 respondents and 71 completed questionnaires were returned for further analysis. The responses to the items of the questionnaire were subjected to a principal component factor analysis and a varimax method of rotation. Two prominent factors were identified and investigated. Factor 1 was labeled "basic science process skills" and reaffirmed teachers' understanding of the basic process skills as autonomous and independent functions. The second factor confirmed the existence of a higher leve...

A questionnaire on the impact of HIV and AIDS on education was constructed and it was content validated against the theoretical assumptions supported by the literature on HIV and AIDS. Empirical investigation and findings reveal that learners perceive that HIV and AIDS have impact on educators, on learners themselves, on school environment, and on school enrolments and performance.

Anchored in phenomenological research design, focus group interviews were used to generate qualitative data from purposefully selected accounting student teachers while member checking was used for validation. Content analysis of data revealed sufficient concurrence in the phenomenological voices of students that they experienced anxiety, stress, isolation, demotivation and lack of contact with their classmates. In mitigation of these experiences, the study recommends that lecturers need to develop learning material with which students can interact meaningfully, and create and maintain a live, interactive virtual learning environment in which student learning is monitored and evaluated continuously. The students appreciated the flexibility of digitally mediated learning and its provision for real opportunities for learning beyond the physical learning environment. The study found that digitally mediated learning creates a platform for a creative, innovative and non-contact learning environment in the new educational dispensation of the COVID-19 pandemic era. It therefore calls for a radical paradigm shift in the pedagogical assumptions and practices of lecturers towards a student-centred virtual learning environment which thrives on digital technology.

Based on the literature study, teacher (educator) and learner questionnaires on inquiry teaching and the application science process skills in the geography classrooms were developed. The questionnaires were administered to 150 teachers with 71 returns and 700 learners with 355 returns. Interviews were also conducted with 20 secondary school geography teachers and 50 grade 12 geography learners. Questionnaire data were analysed quantitatively whi lst data gathered by means of interviews were analysed qualitatively, A literature survey revealed that most researchers are of the opinion that science process skills were suitable and effective to the teaching of geography at secondary school level. It also established that there was a link between inquiry teaching and the application ...

The study was based on the Hersey-Blanchard Situational Leadership Model. It adopted a concurrent triangulation mixed-methods research design which combined the positivist and interpretivist paradigms. The sample consisted of 60 heads of department, who responded to a questionnaire, and another additional 10 heads of department who were interviewed. Simple random sampling was used to select the respondents to the questionnaire while purposive sampling was used to select the interviewees. The findings revealed factors such as, inter alia, a lack of administrative and financial support, lack of parental involvement, lack of learner academic development, poor working conditions, insufficient supply of learning support materials, and lack of laboratories. Therefore, this study recommends that there should be sufficient time allocation f...
