Nursing and midwifery education in Liberia started as hospital and evolved to a master degree lev... more Nursing and midwifery education in Liberia started as hospital and evolved to a master degree level. Current less than 0.5% of nurses and midwives hold master degree compared to 90% with associate degree. The current global trends of nursing and midwifery education call for more nurses to attain baccalaureate degree by 2020. Liberia needs a robust educational system to attain that target. Moreover, the multiple entry points to the profession in Liberia have weaken its standing as compared to other disciplines. Therefore, Baccalaureate degree as the only entry point to the profession will reduce the demoralization of the nursing and midwifery profession in Liberia.
